Just one slip up at home (not a big un’) for Arsenal which was a 1-1 against City other than that it’s been 9 wins.
Utterly dreading this game. I usually try and inject some hope and optimism, but I simply cannot drum up a single milligram. Arsenal are simply way, way better than us in every single dept.
Who will start?
Alisson, Bradley, Konate, VVD, Kerkez, Grav, Mac, Szobo, Wirtz, Gakpo and Frimpong is my guess.
Could get it handed to us here but will go for an easy Arsenal 2-0 win and United will win at Burnley and take fourth.

5th January 2026 at 3:20 pm #235764I was overwhelmed by the abundance of the now quality throughout that Arsenal squad. It’s ‘boy in the sweet shop’ the amount of choice available from practically ALL playing positions. We will be schooled I have no doubt.
I wish I could type something entirely different, but nothing short of a 5-0 defeat. Hope I’m sincerely proved otherwise.

6th January 2026 at 9:37 am #235800Arsenal will be hungry to put right the loss to us earlier in the season, and they will want to do it convincingly. I’m not expecting us to pull up any trees, and we need to move the ball a hell of a lot quicker in the final third to trouble the best defence in the league, if we are to get anything from the game.

6th January 2026 at 11:26 am #235807The Gunners should be more points clear than the current 6 points.
With the sudden increase in particular of defenders, City could find themselves struggling. For the sake of not being a one-horse-race, the rest of us need hope.
I was thinking from the point of view of ‘take stock’. This is as good as it will now get and perhaps even better for a few years to come for Arsenal Supporters as far as glory goes.
One of the Answers starring in people’s faces is not changing your Manager too frequently and hire one the pledges to one ideology and philosophy. 6-7 years in charge now for Mikel Arteta. This is one of the strongest of squads I have seen for a long time.
Odegaard and Zubimendi will play us off the park. Plus they will exert both flanks to pull us out. They will be threat all over. It won’t even be to muster the first 20 minutes in hope of taking the sting out. It will be 95+ minutes.
Conceding 5 would be quite kind. I’d be more confident if we had Mane, Salah, Firmino, Fabinho, Gini, Trent, and a Younger Van Dijk.

6th January 2026 at 12:48 pm #235820Looking at our performances and their performances its hard to see us taking anything away from London.
Theyre a big physical side and frankly we are not.
Set pieces are gonna be massive here. They WILL score from 1.
Defensively they are very good but we are creating very little.
Weirdly this team has shown it can turn it on for a one off game (Inter, Madrid) but I’m not so sure this will happen here.
We’ll maybe see a 4-2-3-1 here…?
Allison
Bradley, Konate, VVD, Robbo
Gravenberch, Jones
Frimpong, Szobo, Gakpo
EkitikeFrankly, it doesnt matter who plays if we continue with the slow, passive football.

6th January 2026 at 5:24 pm #235849It’s easier too on the subject of let’s say a corner for them to decoy Alisson with him being the biggest. So even a chance of him reaching out his arms could be beyond challenging. I wouldn’t mind Gomez actually playing if fit and available.
Our best hope if any to fight fire with fire and attack them probably with higher intensity, flair and with 2 Strikers up Top. I would also consider playing fearless Rio Ngumoha.

6th January 2026 at 5:58 pm #235855Both Brighton and Wolves lost narrowly at Arsenal by packing mid. Three out of the four goals conceded were own goals too. Arsenal can be got at but I don’t think this current Liverpool team has the tactical nous to nullify them.

6th January 2026 at 8:08 pm #235862Slightly random and off topic, but have the West-Ham-Forest on screen and the first attack for the Hammers and the player ahead of his opponents in front of goal chooses to cut inside and then has his path blocked.
Just makes me wonder the difference a quality 2-footed player instead would make and a natural dribbler. We should have and did have these type of players not only to unlock but to fearlessly Strike at Goal!!

7th January 2026 at 10:22 am #235885Serious doubts over Ekitike’s availability for this game now.
Wasn’t that long ago when people were seriously questioning the need for 2 central attackers in the squad.
When it was pointed out that the amount of games we play, injuries and individual form has to be factored in this was dismissed.
We now have zero central attackers available. You didn’t need to have a crystal ball to know more than 1 was needed.

7th January 2026 at 10:42 am #235889There’s having two strikers for one spot, and then there’s having Β£80m and a Β£125m stiker competing for said position. Sorry, that make zero sense to me. If Ekitike is the back-up, we over paid for that position (no the player).

7th January 2026 at 11:13 am #235893Nil we actually do have a natural dribbler in the team in Ryo Ngumoha but Slot refuses to use him, we even have another dribbler in Chiesa. ItΒ΄s Slot who is limiting game-time for a lot of players, itΒ΄s his decisions and no ones else.

7th January 2026 at 11:31 am #235895Time for the players to step up and truly believe in themselves, we are Liverpool FC, we go here to get a result.
Does Slot tweak our usual 4231 and go with four midfielders to control the game, with Wirtz on the left and Mac Allister at No. 10, or does he stick with the proven Gakpo on the left?
Also, does the dangerous and prolific Frimpong (3 assists in 4 games) start on the right?
It remains to be seen what team starts, now let’s just do it.
Alisson
Bradley KonatΓ© Van Dijk Kerkez
Gravenberch Jones
Szoboszlai Wirtz Gakpo
Ekitike
(or Gakpo, if not fit, thus Mac Allister at No. 10, and Wirtz on the left)-

7th January 2026 at 11:40 am #235898“we now have zero central attackers available.
Wrong, Chiesa can play as a No. 9, and he has done so for Liverpool, Juventus and Italy.
And Gakpo can easily play as a striker, like how he has done for Holland, and Liverpool before.
We have no problems at No. 9.

That’s why I would NEVER have signed Isak, and opposed his signing aggressively on this site before we signed him.
For two very, simple reasons, most importantly, he’s far too injury-prone and I really hate us signing highly injury-prone players (such as Thiago), and secondly he was ridiculously overpriced, by at least Β£40m, at Β£125m.
What a poor business deal.

7th January 2026 at 11:51 am #235907Once again context and nuance evades you.
Chiesa has barely started a meaningful game under Slot never mind a game as a central attacker.
Gakpo has started one game as central attacker under Slot; the last one, as the manager had no other options he trusted so was forced into it.
As a result we started a game against a newly promoted team with just one out and out attacker on the pitch.Clearly we do have problems at no9.
