I think we’re being quite smart in the transfer market this summer. We’ve identified the areas that need strengthening and then we’ve looked at several options for those roles. Then we go for the player no one is expecting!! Ha ha!
It’ll be the same with the left back now i think. 4 names in the hat and we’ll just identify and move for one that no one knows about. It makes a big change from the summer of chasing De Jong till the end of the window and looking really stupid.

It would have been far ‘smarter’ to spend 25 million quid less on Joao Gomes, and put the 25 million quid saved towards strengthening other positions within the squad.

even if we do get Baleba, we are still well short of what we need to compete in 4 competitions this season; we need top class (and available) RB, LB and CB at the very least, as well as a left winger and a backup striker. Lots and lots of work to do for the remainder of the window, and not much time to do it.

Baleba at 22 and at a reported 85kp/w wage is still good business. Yes last season was bad for him but personally i do feel he will come good just as i believed in the Santos signing.
The positives are the players signed all wanted to come and play for this great club of ours. I have officially drank from @happy’s cool aid 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The left back position is a difficult one now that it seems Hall is a non starter. As a stop gap i wouldn’t mind Antonee Robinson from Fulham. The issue is he has just turned 29 and Fulham would more than likely try and take the piss on the fee. But he would give the club a few years to identify and bring in a young left back for the future.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we bin signing a LB and go back in nest summer for Hall when we will probably re-build the defence anyway with Shaw and Harry released and hopefully LM sold?

Problem is if Shaw gets injured and is out for long periods then we’ll be fucked. A makeshift RB at LB or Amass are not the answer. Plus there is talk Hall will sign a new deal at Newcastle meaning he’ll cost at least £80M next season which i don’t see us doing. Going in to a season with 3 games a week in 4 compositions with only Shaw as a recognised starting LB is a massive risk. Maybe they’ll put Dorgu there if Rashford stays but for me he is suspect defensively. Said it before, think we are only a few injuries away from having a tough season. Need more options at LB and striker before the window closes.
