I get your point about a big change.
Regarding playing Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak all together, I saw something that I didnt consider before. We have no back up for either striker, so if one if injured, suspended or off form then that tactic is out the window. Also wouldnt make the Semenyo rumour make much sense, whilst he can play no 9 he is better on the wings.
Speaking of which, I think we all assume Semenyo would move to replace Salah and that is likely in the long run, but he can also play on the left, maybe in place of Gakpo.
I am sure there is a long term plan somewhere between Slot and Hughes, I am just not seeing it at the moment.

21st November 2025 at 10:36 am #230810Tbf to Semenyo he can play multiple attacking positions and isn’t the kind of player that just sticks to the wing.
The way I see Wirtz behind a front 2 wouldn’t necessarily be a front 2 that remains central all the time they would drift a little wider and attack the space left pulling defenders here and there.Having said that it doesn’t mean we will defo change formation going into the future but maybe in the short term when Salah is at AFCON.

21st November 2025 at 4:09 pm #230828“Threeps is literally talking about stats BEYOND goals and assists.”
Just keep it simple, goals and assists, plus injury record, are the MOST Important stats for an attacker.
And these are the simple stats I’ve used to predict whether a player will be successful for Liverpool FC, even before they’ve kicked a ball for us, and I’ve been correct most of the time, most notably, and spectacularly, with ManĂ©, Salah, DĂaz and Gakpo.
I am totally confident that Semenyo, based on his stats (plus the way he runs through teams, and his team player attitude), will be a big success for us, if he signs for us.

21st November 2025 at 4:20 pm #230831By the way I think this is the first time on these pages I’ve ever seen an alleged liverpool fan call one of their own players a twat.
Songman sinking to new depths.
Actually threeps, it’s you who’s sinking to new depths, getting so easily offended. Perhaps you should reconsider the way you waxed lyrical over the summer, over a player who has (so far) proved to be one of our biggest, most expensive, transfer mistakes.
And while I regret calling Isak a twat, prima donna is the more correct term I should have used, but go ask the Newcastle fans what they think of him, with his selfish, petulant attitude, and you’ll get the real answer.

21st November 2025 at 4:38 pm #230834Show me evidence that I “waxed lyrical over the summer…”.
If anyone has been waxing lyrically it’s you over Slot and Hughes calling them natural winners or whatever. Until they did something you didn’t like of course.
And judging by the comments that came after mine, it’s not just me that think you’re out of order.

21st November 2025 at 4:41 pm #230835Sean, DirtyHarry, why should I reign it in? This a deal that we should have never done in the first place.
Anyone could see that Isak was highly overpriced, and even worse, we had already signed another striker Ekitike, when we should have used the funds to replace Diaz, with the likes of Semenyo. And this the question that most football pundits, and even Liverpool ex-pros, are asking right now.
And the majority of Liverpool fans were so delirious, and couldn’t see beyond the hype, or even ask why we’re buying a player with such a selfish, petulant attitude.
But, regardless of the deal, of course, I want Isak to succeed at Liverpool, and win us the biggest trophies, and I’ve already stated that over here.

Slot and Hughes won the Premier League at the first attempt, against all odds, expectations, and only spending ÂŁ13m on Chiesa, so I’m 100% right to call them winners. Slot has also won Eredevisie, again, against all odds, with a minimal budget, so of course he is a winner.
And have you never heard of constructive criticism?
Are you saying that a manager or Director of Football, can never be criticised? Because that is ridiculous, ALL the top managers have been criticised at one time or other when they clearly get it wrong.

Do you honestly think I’ll waste my time looking at your old posts? This can be answered really simply – did you want us to sign Isak for ÂŁ124m or not?
I definitely did not want us to sign him for that amount, and I stated that ÂŁ80m is the maximum we should pay for him.

21st November 2025 at 5:44 pm #230839It’s because you seem to have a personal vendetta against him. My advice was to reflect on that. Nothing more.
“But, regardless of the deal, of course, I want Isak to succeed at Liverpool, and win us the biggest trophies, and I’ve already stated that over here.”
I think we all agree with the above.

21st November 2025 at 6:52 pm #230841I think Song ‘supports’ Isak but just a) didn’t like the fee we paid for him and b) doesn’t like his character and the way he went about his business during the summer.
Thing is, we have no clue, as fans what actually transpired between him and Newcastle (it ‘seems’ last season Newcastle had agreed to revisit his contract but since reneged on that and therefore Isak exercised a defacto buyout clause forcing Newcastle to accept any offer made). Dunno, just reading between the lines and there’s usually another side to every story. We also absolutely DO NOT KNOW if indeed Isak is a twat/prima donna. I don’t know him. Song doesn’t know him. He might be the nicest fella you could ever meet. Who knows? The media haven’t helped in creating a narrative that he has, indeed, acted like a twat. Many will jump on that as the media does influence. We don’t know to the FULL extent what happened.
Let’s not forget we essentially lost THREE of our forward line over the summer. Two number nines and a seven. We replaced them with two nines (like for like with Ekitike able to play the seven). We didn’t replace Diaz. Would we have liked to have seen the Isak money being spent on a Diaz replacement and another less expensive nine? Maybe. There’s arguments for both sides. Ekitike has had a decent start but will he be prolific for us? I have my doubts. One league goal in three months. I like him though. I see him more as a Jota style player, contributing but not prolific. Isak’s career stats are approx 1 goal every 2 games. That’s the striking stats we need at a club like Liverpool. Consistent, not occasional baggers as we lost Diaz and Salah a) isn’t the Salah of previous seasons and b) he’s gone next season so we need someone to replace those goals and believe, once up to speed, Isak will give us that.

Coz we’re all bored of hearing it.
On every single thread.
We get it!

Not seen any evidence for that, apart from a few clickbait sites suggesting it. According to Transfermarkt.de he’s played on the left wing a total of 7 times in his entire professional career. Put that into perspective, Jones has played more times at right back than that in the last year.

21st November 2025 at 8:34 pm #230844But threeps, it is a ‘possibility’ that we ‘could’ see Ekitike play left attack at some point. Not beyond any realm of impossibility. He did naturally drift left many times for Frankfurt.

21st November 2025 at 8:48 pm #230847Of course it’s a possibility.
But if that what we wanted and the plan, why didn’t we just buy a player that actually plays off/from the left?

22nd November 2025 at 1:34 am #230850We are currently in the middle of a project, we know some players are still needed to complete the team or fit the system. Guehi had a bid but was rejected, all the eggs into ngoumohas basket(which might mean he can gets loaned and we get semenyo).the 2 most likely incomings in the next month.
I believe there is a system in place for the current team but it leaves us too open and players might find it complicated. The 4231 is my favourite system, its solid and good for getting results. However the worlds ever changing and now it slows play down and is not as fluid as a 433.

22nd November 2025 at 1:39 am #230851For me the only formation, setup and system that comes to mind with our current set of players that could be incorporated:
2 main CDs van dijk and konate With grav/bajcetic(i know hes not kicked a ball for months but can play in defence and dm) dropping into defence to bring the ball out as well as to help with defensive work.
2 wingbacks offering To stretch play as well as to defend. Depending on the circumstances can help with overloads by underlapping when strikers are pushed wide and frimpong for sure has an eye for goal.
Mac szobo and grav in midifield. Mac dictating play and also helping with defensive work(shouldnt be anywhere near wirtz they get in the way of each other and start playing tippy tappy football). Szobo playing box to box and helping wirtz in attack.. and staying just outside of the penalty box… good shooting range. Also without the ball we would have sheer numbers to flood the midfield.
Wirtz in attacking midfield/ false 9/ inside left. Creating for the 2 strikers and an option for the wingbacks for collecting the ball. Needs to nit play and also shoot on site.
Ekitike/gakpo(played in strike before and sometimes it feels hes cut above the rest) playing left centre forward and coming from the wing to open space in the middle. Isak/salah playing right centre forward.

22nd November 2025 at 6:32 am #230856Asian you’re describing a diamond midfield that I’ve mentioned a few times. The only issue is width. Going forward you can use the wing backs and we have perfect ones for that but defending it’s easy for the opposition to overload against on the flanks. You could have a midfielder go across to help but then that can leave the middle exposed.
Of course there’s not one tactic that works for all situations and this could work some of the time. The DM dropping into the back line when building out from the back gives many options to play the ball to draw the press and VvD can ping it out to the flanks for a quick attack. Problem is we don’t play out from the back much this season but maybe that’s because of the setup rather than instructions.
On paper it sounds a good solution for the players we have it’s just defending on the flanks that worries me. I think a plausible plan is the 4231 but with the 2 sitting more (or at least one always can alternate) and the wide attackers helping out defensively.
Oh and way more intensity both attacking and defending, but that doesn’t seem Slots idea at the moment. This to me is more important than formations and who starts.

22nd November 2025 at 8:57 am #230859Not sure on that Sean, looks more like a left sided centre forward. Attached is his average position for that game.
Could he play that for us? Sure, but it would need some tweaking defensively to support the left side. We already have the right side fully exposed, don’t want both!
