If any of you missed Jordan Peterson’s interview with Cathy Newman on channel 4 recently, it’s well worth a watch:

Firmino is starting to make a habit of this look the other way shooting, what a legend haha.

We can’t rely on Can defensively but with a bit of cover behind him he is still a useful player and had a good game tonight. Largely thanks to the work of Henderson and Milner.

They need to speed it up, but as long as it helps the ref make the right decision I think it’s good for the game.

The problem with Mignolet is on set pieces. Karius may be nervy and perhaps not as good a shot stopper but look at how Pardew set his team up on set pieces last night. Exactly the same way he’s done at several other clubs over several years, and it works every time. Mignolet can’t handle a bit of physicality in the six yard box and it’s just way too easy to beat that.
Mignolet may or may not be better overall, but that one weakness is so bad and after this amount of time he’s still not fixed it.. he deserves dropping.

              Good question Editor.
He’s versatile and might get a chance at midfield, but we really needed cover for Mane and Salah, and I suspect that’s the main reason he was signed. He won’t get into the first 11 when everyone’s fit right now. But who knows, if Klopp and his staff can improve his fitness (he seems overweight) we might see Ox get back to his old self and challenge for a place in the first 11. But for now he’s third place, behind Mane and Salah, in our winger pecking order.

Same team as you nutts, except Henderson instead of Can.

Well you say that Jim, but Jordan Pickford moved for 30m this window.

I think Ox is actually quite an under-rated talent. He’s had his progress hampered with injuries the last 2 years, but he has more to offer than he’s shown lately. I’m hearing 35m, which for an experienced England international, 24 years of age, is probably a bargain in today’s market!

It’s going to be a long season for Wenger and the Arsenal fans…

Great performance from Liverpool today, gave Arsenal the run around from start to finish.

Disappointing from McGregor. What’s he been doing these last few months, when he’s not even prepared to fight beyond 25 minutes.

Should have swallowed his pride and slowed down a bit, maybe even put a knee to the canvas if needed when he’s been hurt.
It made for a good spectacle, McGregor is definitely a great showman, but his arrogance and pride got the better of him in this fight.

That first 20 minutes, or so, was the best football I’ve seen under Klopp.

Hoffenheim are no mugs, that was a big pressure game and the lads made it look easy.

Moreno looked good in pre-season, he’s good going forward, he’s quick, and when he’s in the right position and stays on his feet he’s difficult to get past.

Unfortunately he has a tendency to over-commit in the challenge and leave us exposed if he misses the ball, is poor at aerial challenges, a huge bag of nerves in the penalty area, and bombs forward to counter often before the threat on our goal is really over. He can go 90 minutes without getting exposed, but I’d put those performances more down to luck than anything else.

Against any team who’s done their homework and taking the game seriously, Moreno is a weakness in the defence they will look to take advantage of.

Interesting that Solanke seems to be above Origi in the pecking order already. Had a good pre-season and made a difference when he came on. Still has some physical development to do, but looks a clever player with great potential, and will get plenty playing time with the long season ahead.
What a luxury to be able to bring on Salah in the second half too.
If Robertson can maintain this level and we keep Coutinho, it will have been a better transfer window than many have given credit for.

We may not have made many additions in this window so far, but I was pleased with the difference they made. Probably should have scored more, but a convincing overall performance against a team that’s given us a lot of trouble recent years.

I imagine we’ll be in for Draxler, but so will a few other clubs.
Let’s see what happens, lots of drama still to come in this window.

Yeah ginger, Firmino made a name for himself at Hoffenheim as an attacking midfielder. He could potentially fill in during Coutinho and Lallana’s absence, but with so few strikers on the books Klopp will probably keep him as a striker. I’ve noticed the two wingers are often the most advanced players on the pitch with Firmino dropping a little deeper, there’s a lot of fluidity in our attack, and perhaps Klopp likes it that way.

I’d even rather see Gomez at left back before Moreno. I’m not usually one for singling out players, but Moreno has had plenty time and opportunity to adapt, yet he’s still an awful defender… One of the worst, if not THE worst, in the league.

We spent a good part of the game sitting back and inviting them to attack, during these periods of the game we kept them quiet, and foiled them with some good tackles and saves, and we defended set pieces well.

“We got caught a few times” as I said in my last post, with our defence exposed. Moreno is diabolical (why he’s still at the club I don’t know). But with Hof seeing so much of the ball, I thought as a team we restricted them. Despite their possession we looked more likely and created the better opportunities. Especially Can, Henderson and Matip who I thought dug in deep and defended very well. Mignolet also had a very good game.

Hoffenheim must not have been watching us last season or last weekend against Watford. Fortunately they weren’t setting up with a man on Mignolet on corners. We got caught a few times on the counter but other than that, I thought Liverpool defended well.
Nice professional performance, great result, and what a goal from TAA!

As a Liverpool fan, I’m not looking forward to this one. It’s going to be a nervy game, and I could see us conceding 2 or 3. Let’s hope Klopp keeps the lads calm and they score enough to stay in contention for the second leg at Anfield.
The plus side of being a Liverpool supporter these days, is we don’t get too many 0-0 draws. Let’s hope for an entertaining game.
