I did say “if” we change to a back 3… I actually expect the similair 4-3-3 used agasint Ghana… I also think Southgate won’t tinker too much…

Without going back into the archives and checking, my feeling is that Southgate has always reverted to 3 CBs when we come up against the top sides. I stand to be corrected there but it’s certainly the feeling I have. I’d like to see him continue with the 433 but I really think we’ll see us going more defensive to combat Mbappe & co.
Chucky, Dier alongside Stones and Maguire worries me. No pace at all in those 3. They’re all prone to a lapse in concentration too. I think we all know Walker will be tasked with keeping Mbappe under control but we’ll have to see where from. Which actually makes me wonder, for all this talk about Walker being ideal to track Mbappe, could France spring a surprise and put him on the other side up against Maguire and Shaw? Another option of course is Shaw, rather than Walker, coming into a back 3 and Trippier going LWB. Shaw does that role pretty well also.
Yeah Sean, Dalot has come on massively this season. Still, dropping Cancelo for him is a big call. Wonder why Cancelo doesn’t get in at LB then? Just not fancied?
