but useless for the rest of the minutes he played, like he is useless in every other game we play, there is no drive from him. He never presses anyone, he barely works for the team, barely tracks back, rarely passes the ball, there is no bravery either. Not the worst player in the world but he is the worst forward we have given minutes to in more than a decade!

4th March 2026 at 11:12 am #240663I can forgive Salah when he plays like that but it´s not often than Salah is totally useless on the field, he presses, he tracks back and works for the team, he passes the ball around. Last but not least Salah has the numbers in his game, he has proven what he is capable of. That is something Gakpo has yet to do and he plays in such a lazy way, sits in space waiting for the ball instead of pressing the ball. He expect the whole team to play for him while he delivers nothing!

4th March 2026 at 11:17 am #240664The worst thing about the game is our deluded head coach talking about how many more chances we made from open play

4th March 2026 at 11:25 am #240665Once again you’re getting into the weeds about individual players but missing the bigger picture.

4th March 2026 at 11:37 am #240666one of the major issue is our attack, we do not score from open play and one of the key reasons for that is the form of Gakpo, even when he scores it´s just like watching a broken clock being right once per day.

4th March 2026 at 11:38 am #240667I´m guessing about 90% of the fanbase can see that Rio should be starting right now!

4th March 2026 at 11:44 am #240670Just look at that epic clearance made by Gakpo, kicking the ball out of the way from Jones and hitting the post, that is as composed as you can get right. I´ve been demanding more bravery from him and when he shows it he clears the ball of the line for the opposition.

We’ve both been saying that for months now in one form or another. I think individual player blame or praise is just easier.

4th March 2026 at 12:12 pm #240672name me one other player I have been criticizing! The fact is we are playing with 10 men when Gakpo is on the field and our deluded head coach thinks it is working!

4th March 2026 at 12:20 pm #240675Gakpo has 27.43 passes every game, that puts him in the 23rd percentile for the entire database of forwards in Europe. He has 21.89 successful passes every game that puts him in the 27th percentile. His pass completion rate is 79.79 and that is in the top 38th percentile. His cross completion rate of 13.75 puts him in the top 34th percentile.

4th March 2026 at 1:07 pm #240678Salah has 8 goals and 8 assists.
For most wide attackers that’s a pretty good return at this stage of the season.
For MOST, not Salah standards.Let’s compare with the “mercurial” Saka.
He also has 8 goals but with 8 games played more. It’s almost like we’re not set up to get the best out of our wide players.

4th March 2026 at 1:09 pm #240679If we take a look at their good stats Salah is still in the top 97% in all his main categories meanwhile Gakpo is around 80%.

4th March 2026 at 1:11 pm #240681and it´s not even about the stats, everyone can see how useless Gakpo is out there, he is getting outworked by a 17 year old kid in ten minute cameos.

4th March 2026 at 1:20 pm #240683Salah has 5 goals and 6 assists, which is a terrible season for him but I´m putting that on Slot, we all know Salah is capable of more and I still think he will have a good end to the season unless Slot benches him.

Should we be praising Gakpo for his workrate, vision and bravery right now? I did call his clearance for Wolves spectacular, that would have been a goal for Jones if Gakpo had not cleared the ball into the bar. Is that praise worthy?

At this stage I can only conclude it’s deliberate.

4th March 2026 at 2:32 pm #240692Gestalting is what the Germans (and psychologists) say. Seeing ‘the whole’ as opposed to the smaller parts that create ‘the whole.’
With Liverpool, currently, it’s a mixture of many ‘dysfunctional’ parts creating ‘the dysfunctional whole’ such as….
We won the league last season. Is there a lack of motivation to win number 21? There shouldn’t be and believe the players want to win it. Historically, we’ve seen teams (in all sports) drop off a cliff following a successful season.Jota – we don’t know how much it has affected certain players.
Slot’s tactics – are we seeing the ‘real Slot’? I believe he wants it better as he frequently mentions the issues (playing slow, lack of goals from open play etc.) but does he know how to fix it? We’ve seen us play well but that has been extremely infrequent. Our nines (Ekitike and Isak) need service, but they don’t get it and saw Ekitike go walkabout last night as nothing was happening up front. Chiesa came on and just thrown on. No plan, just go and play wherever like a lunchtime school game. WTF is going on? I appreciate what Slot did last season but I don’t think he’s the right man (ditto with his staff).
Too many new signings – we needed new players, no doubt, but where they the right ones at the right time? Mostly, no, they weren’t. Outside forward, defensive mid would’ve helped but Slot doesn’t seem interested in a 6. We need one, big time. Slot, if I remember, didn’t want Rio’s pathway affected by bringing in a Diaz replacement. I get that, I do, but we have the predictable Gakpo and Rio doesn’t get much game time. He better fuckin start Friday is all I can say. We needed help in the engine room as Grav is either on it or badly off it, like last night. Not kept fresh. Same with Mac. Szobo needs time off too. Jones is Jones and won’t be anything else or special but a good squad player. Our midfield is simply NOT strong enough.
Injuries – the norm for us (yes, other teams have injuries too, I get it!) but I don’t give a rip about other teams. Leoni, done. Bradley, another injury, done. Isak, never got going, boom, done. We needed him, like last night. Frimpong, never got injured prior to 25/26 and has been out 3 times. Gomez, will always pick up seasonal injuries. Alisson has too. Amazingly, Konate isn’t in my list (shouldn’t have typed that).
Underperforming players – Gakpo, Mo, Grav, Mac, even Allison whose distribution has been wayward (confused tactics affecting who should be open and isn’t?). Add piss poor mgmt of player rotation to that too.
Massive individual errors – tactics aside how do you account for VVD’s handball or Grav at the weekend telling him to cover Soucek and chose not to do so. Jones and Gakpo last night playing Abbott and Costello from a yard out. To name but a few. Happens almost weekly.
8 games and 11 points lost from drawing or winning positions in 90 plus minutes and conceding. Lack of focus, management?
Lots of moving parts lads. A bit of this, a sprinkle of that and a dash of the other.
It’s been this way all season and will continue this way until May so expect a lot more of the same with equal hope needed that other teams will cock it up too.
We won’t get in the CL through our own results. We won’t. We’ll need help.
