24th January 2026 at 11:21 pm #237671Sorry canโt agree. VVD is still our best defender by a country mile.
The team is full of talent not playing to its potential. We can argue all we like about which signing we needed and which we didnโt. Doesnโt matter itโd done.
The facts are there are players who are playing poorly and have been for a while. They are unlikely to turn it around, Salah being the best example.
There are other players who are ineffective playing in the style they are being asked to play.
Slot is making strange decisions and losing games we should and must be winning. At the same time the playing style is poor and boring. That can be tolerated when we are winning but canโt be given our current circumstances. Heโs toast and can only have himself to blame.

25th January 2026 at 8:09 am #237681Many issues with ‘VVD is done’
1. The entire squad has declined
2. Obvious disharmony in the camp
3. Poor tactics
4. Terrible squad depth
5. No challenger for his spot
6. Poor training
Now they’re a few of the reasons for his and many players drop off, our player are knackered at the 50 minute mark.
Look at Mo…theyre aging but the slip isnt just an age thing._____________________________

25th January 2026 at 1:12 pm #237706Lots of casual mistakes inside him. Even when we played Palace at Anfield few years ago. Yesterday; a bread and butter clearance leading to a Bournemouth goal not to mention a collision between our own 2 players that could have been avoided.
We need 2 new Centre halves and Partnership.

25th January 2026 at 6:30 pm #237774Van Dijk just needs a better partner. He is no longer able to anchor the team and cover the blushes others. He is definitely declining but imagine him with a top quality cb beside him and imagine if he wasn’t being asked to push so high upfield every game and inevitably always on the backfoot.

27th January 2026 at 2:17 pm #237901Normally his partner pushes up and deals with any incoming long balls and Van Dijk clears up.
I dont really think his form this season has anything to do with him declining, its just about consistency.
The best defense in the world always has one thing in common and that is that the back four or five or what ever it may be plays every game together.
We have not had one consistent lineup this season, either its our left or right back, its Konate or Alison that is out.
So we keep fielding a defense that has only had 3-4 games together it that much.
What i would like to slate Van Dijk for this season is how he has handled the captaincy, his body language says a lot about how we are playing.
Shrugging his shoulders, showing frustration, pointing the finger at times, acting all surprised when he commits a foul.
It’s something I never saw Henderson do, who remains my favorite captain of all times. Neither did Milner any of this…
Im hoping that Robbo will show some leadership right now like Milner did, I dont even get why we have not used him as a emergency righback.
I even miss Matip’s leadership right now and he was the most quiet guy we ever had. He just showed up and meant business. No excuses, no bullshit, just get on with it.
Do you think Henderson or Milner would have passed the ball around for 7 minutes while being a man down, or stating that they thought they were in control of the game when they conceded.
Cause I’m pretty sure Henderson would have showed up for the interview and taken full responsibility and given out a sincere apology to the fans for being that nonchalant and disrespectful to our opposition.
I think Klopp would have been waiting for them frothing by the mouth in anger if that happened under him.

27th January 2026 at 4:22 pm #237910Bingo, 2 nails you have hit on the head which is about owning it and attitude. This is what has the most disappointed me about Van Dijk: giving the impression in acting all perplexed. The attitude. Look how Joel Matip used to be.
He is hugely missed. VVD just gives me the impression he just needs to turn up and he’ll be able to breeze past the minutes without too many hard yards needed.
The players to me down-tools or lack the energy every other time in entering injury time. A correlation to why we have conceded late goals as a consequence.
