It was January of 2025 since we last played Spurs in the League Cup, losing 1-0 at WHL to a late (shock!) Bergvall goal (only scored once since) which made perfect sense as Spurs had only won one of their last eight at home prior to the game. We bashed ’em though in the second leg of the Semi Final, 4-0 at Anfield. It was in vain anyhow as we just didn’t show to the Final against Newcastle.
5 games in for Spurs and only in one of those games have they scored in, a 5-1 thumping of Charlton in round 2. They seem to have sorted out their defence though, not conceding (but not scoring mind) in their last two games.
Who will start this? Not gonna try and predict the entire 11 but one would expect the likes of Mama, Gomez, Kostas, Grav, Nyoni, Koumas, Endo, Rio, Frimpong all to start/feature. Oh balls to it, I’ve almost an 11 so here goes…
Mama, Frimpong, Gomez, VVD, Kostas, Nyoni, Grav, Szobo, Rio, Gakpo and Koumas.
I would also thoroughly expect Spurs to score with Marmoush the likely one to open up his season account, former old boy Solanke to have a say and predictably, if he does appear, Richarlison to get his obligatory strike against us. Keep an eye for young Tyrese Hall if he plays. A talent!….oh, and welcome back Robbo!
Away win.

14th September 2026 at 6:02 pm #256874Got to win both games this week to get some momentum going.
No messing about, play our strongest team (with some rotation), seal the win early and then bring on all five subs, that’s my plan.
Drop Wirtz and rest Jacquet, while Frimpong needs to take his chance at right-back.
Now let’s crush them and get back on track.
Mamardashvili
Frimpong Araรบjo Van Dijk Kerkez
Mac Allister Gravenberch
Gakpo Szoboszlai Barcola
Isak-

14th September 2026 at 6:33 pm #256881Marma would be a good insert for this. Ali I love as a True Pro and Legend but he could probably do with a break.
We need to send the right message across what our intent is for this competition and how seriously are we taking this.
If this is an inconvenience to us purely on the basis of having to play more games, then that’s a poor show quite frankly and we’d be seeing wholesale changes.
I don’t want De Zerbi getting anything out of us and a clean sheet would be of true delight. Tough game Saturday so this would be a great confidence booster for us and keep up the momentum of being unbeaten.

14th September 2026 at 8:04 pm #256882Hmmm…I think we’ll see more changes than people think.
Mama, Frimpong, Jaquet, Araujo, Chambers, Nyoni, Macca, Szobo, Rio, Gakpo and Koumas.
Its a shame Danns isnt fit, hopefully he may get a few minutes from the bench. The RB position could be interesting with Isaac Mabaya being elected for the champions league squad, you might, if youre Iriola, you want to see him playing against a prem team in a cup to gauge him…so, maybe he’ll start.

14th September 2026 at 8:49 pm #256885I can see Spurs keeping players like Maddison on the bench and bring him on in the second half.
I’d go with that sort of line up Moonster. As long as we have a Spine of core Established players and more importantly Leaders, we stand a chance.
Our main starters sure will attend as normal and will probably be saved on the bench and used either during the second half or late on with caution ideally or to change the game depending on where we are with the Scoreline.

14th September 2026 at 9:20 pm #256889I hope Iriola goes 50%/50%, 50% of the 1st team in the starting line up to help the less experienced, and the other 50% on the bench available is its not going well.
The inexperienced players need help and on-field coaching, this helps them mature and bed in better to the system, and winning with them breeds confidence in themselves._____________________________

14th September 2026 at 10:56 pm #256895Moonster, that sounds logical and sensible to me. We’re really going to have to utilize and maximise our squad. Really hope though we progress into the next round.
I didn’t realise too that James Milner is back with us as a Coach.

14th September 2026 at 10:57 pm #256896Yeah, teams out there have had like hidings. I’m happy from that point of view, we’ve not lost any matches. We seem to be more stronger now in defence.

14th September 2026 at 11:08 pm #256897Nil, not back as an ’employed’ coach, getting his hours for his pro license. Conor Coady was there at Xmas when I was there and he’s doing the exact same thing.

15th September 2026 at 11:30 am #256916In order to keep the squad fresh, injury free, and giving others game time, rotation is expected here.
Iraola has intimated as much.Problem is though those we have to bring in to rotate arnt anywhere near as good as the others, the drop off is too much.
Take the Fulham game for example, Tsimikas was brought in and subbed at half time.
He had a torrid first half.Iraola has said โplayers we havenโt seenโ will be involved.
Perhaps he means Chambers, McConnell, Koumas etc but that remains to be seen.
Danns is seemingly unavailable.-

15th September 2026 at 12:48 pm #256923Iโm gonna kinda disagree with all this โburnoutโ theory with just 5 games playedโฆ with 1 more game before a 21 day international break before our next game.
We should go out and win this game with our senior squad(maybe changes in goal). The team needs these games also to learn the system and build team chemistry! If the games won or out of reach give more time to nyoni, koumas and even josh abe, sonni lambiโฆ
Marma, araujo, jacquet, VVD, kerkez, gravenberch, mac, szobo, gakpo, isak, barcola
I want us to go far in this comp so we can slowly give some time to up and coming youngsters, returning players(bradley, ekitike, gomez) and iron out general play, system issues.

15th September 2026 at 1:24 pm #256927Asian, all valid points. Though I do consider the wellbeing of players looking at the bigger picture of being involved in as many matches over 9 months or so, they should essentially be specimens you would think built-to-last.
The modern day player is molly coddled with luxuries and all the pampering.
But we know unfortunately our track record when it comes to injuries tells us a story. We also have players with a history of injuries. It’s a good job we were presented with our recalls countering our departures at least in numbers.
Just need the right blend if we are to mix up our regular starters with the squad.

15th September 2026 at 2:09 pm #256930you might be spot on with the team Rob, Iraola probably wants to rotate Van Dijk but we donยดt really have the luxury. Then I expect Gakpo to be up top actually. I would like to see Macca play instead of Gravy but thatยดs about it.

15th September 2026 at 2:26 pm #256931Asiansensation, my sentiments exactly, see my line up, we have to win both matches this week to kick-start our momentum and confidence.
Thus I’d go strong to seal the win early, then bring on the subs, all five or them.
And fight for that clean sheet.
