The thing with Kounde also is, in recent years, he’s more of a RB that can play CB.
Rather than a CB that can play RB.That might actually suit our current predicament.

29th July 2026 at 10:53 am #251618Did kounde sign a new contract so barca get more money? No idea how they can spend considering debt they are in
Kounde becperfect. Hes an excellent defender and gets up and down the flank
Ginger, wasnt kounde converted to rb when he went to barca. I know he was cb at seviila (i thibk that was his previous club)
If barcola is our only widecsigning, i can see him playing on the right as who else have we? Its not his beat position. Hes a left forward. We need a right attacker.

29th July 2026 at 11:01 am #251619We very much do need a right sided attacker.
If Barcola signs that would mean left hand side would be over subscribed with players who are predominately left sided attackers…
Barcola
Gakpo
Muñoz
RioMeanwhile the right hand side..
Maybe Chiesa???People talk about balance in other areas of the pitch (which is fine) but when it comes to attack?
We may yet still sign a right sided attacker.

29th July 2026 at 11:35 am #251621Sangare goes to Brentford for £41mil.
That’s him and Gomes both moved this window for reasonable money.

29th July 2026 at 2:01 pm #251624I’m getting the impression we are not that interested in the Gomes/Sangare type of midfielder.
Or we have other priorities ahead of midfield.Didnt the Wharton interest stem back to Slot era?
Perhaps the view has changed under Iraola._____________________________

29th July 2026 at 2:10 pm #251625Hence my belief we won’t go for a more dedicated 6 Ginger as I mentioned last week in my ‘verbose’ post on how Iraola sets his stall out without the ball in predominantly a 442 (the pivot just flank each other covering the middle of the park on the third line). He deploys more of a hybrid pivot which in essence is most pivots are these days (6-8 roles) which is what we have currently with Mac and Grav. Chelsea have it in Fernandez/Caicedo too (way better technical pivot). The only thing is I don’t see them as leaders as seemingly no-one is at Chelsea hence their approaches for Mssrs Welbeck and Henderson.

29th July 2026 at 2:37 pm #251627Its now been over 3 weeks since I first raised concerns about the amount of transfer work that needs done, the amount that has been done and the limited time left to do it.
Since then nothing has changed except we are 3 weeks closer to the league starting and 3 weeks closer to the window closing.
We still need the players in to build a competitive squad.
I would not at all be surprised if we did nothing in midfield at this stage.

29th July 2026 at 3:36 pm #2516323ps, we’re been broken and the players we signed at the very top wedged just haven’t delivered. They don’t fill me with confidence. I know there’s different factors that have influenced both Wirtz and Isak, but I was expecting more.
We failed miserably. I do hope there is a turnaround and we get joy out of these guys. It’s New Wingers, a defensive midfielder and a central defender we’re gonna need as part of the first 11.
That’s the reality if we want to return to those levels of realistically being able to challenge.

29th July 2026 at 5:09 pm #251642I posted this on 25th May about Mamdou Sangaré:
First priority is a tough defensive midfielder, my first choice is Mamdou Sangaré, in Ligue 1 Team of The Year, ranked 4th in whole of Ligue 1 and No. 1 in interceptions, has pace, goals and is rarely injured.
So WTF are Liverpool not in for him? I hope we have another top DM lined up, or perhaps Iraola thinks our current midfielders are good enough to play there.
Now he’s off to Brentford for just £41m. And some people say you can’t find decently priced, top players in this market.

29th July 2026 at 5:13 pm #251647I don’t we’re in the realms of desperation, but 145 for a player I’ve never even heard of. What’s so special about Barcola?!

Maybe Hughes hasn’t read your posts recently?
Nil, did any player fill you with confidence last season? Even Szoboszlai struggled, many times he looked up, saw nothing happening and had to recycle it. Did read he performed the most back passes in the league but that might be fake.
Been hearing we are after a more playmaking midfielder than a tradional 6 but I think one has to go first, or st least be lined up to go. Not sure I agree but I can see how Whartons passing range will suit us.

29th July 2026 at 5:49 pm #251649Nil, Barcola is one of the very best ball carriers in Europe or the world, there are some players that rate higher than him but they are few and most often playing in lesser games. He is proven at every level, I don´t care if his price tag goes up before we sign him, we just have to go after him.
These big signings are signals of intent and how much faith we have in these players and project, should we have said no to Van Dijk or Alison because we had to pay top price for them at the time?
Wirtz, Isak and Barcola can all make their own legacy at this club, I got no worries about these price tags.
We will have a few accountants raging about their prices because they have never seen a number so big but that is about all.
You should just get excited about the extreme pace our attack will have, you should get excited about how far we can push up the field and press the opposition. We had no players out wide last season that could carry the ball forward, I hate to say it about Salah but it might have been time.
We can all point at tactics and Slot and everything else from last season but we have to remember nobody showed up going forward, the only goals we scored were set pieces from Szobo.
We got pace on both flanks for the first time in ages, we have not had pace down both the wings since both Salah and Mane were in their prime, Salah slowed down and Mane got replaced twice now.
Our biggest problem last season was how slow we were, especially in transition, we were slow and boring. Now we will be fast and hopefully exciting going forward.

You just don’t buy any player at any price, and then come to regret it when the player fails to deliver.
For me, Barcola, maximum price £80m or we look elsewhere, and there are other top quality more reasonably priced wingers around.

29th July 2026 at 6:04 pm #251652but I will indulge you songman, name me another winger with his international experience, his trophy record, his big match experience and then a similar goals per minute ratio and a similar assists per minute ratio. That costs 80 million in todays market?

Victor Muñoz of Liverpool FC, he’s even a World Cup winner
