I’d play Endo too with Nyoni as his understudy, rotate Grav and MacAllister depending on opposition.
Szoboszlai isn’t an 8 in a 4231. He’s an 8 in a 433 with a dedicated no 6 behind him which we won’t play. He hasn’t the discipline or defensive nature to play in a two man midfield.
I’d put him on the right attack but with license to come inside and join the midfield when in possesion, letting Frimpong provide width and peneration in the space vacated.

1st September 2026 at 4:22 pm #255425Bradley won’t be back until the end of the year. Gomez supposedly ‘fit’ for this weekend although would like to use the word ‘fit’ ‘loosely’ with both.

1st September 2026 at 4:27 pm #255426Iraolas midfield 2 need to be mobile and physically able to get around the pitch.
Seemingly that what he wants from them.
Endo is most definately not that.
Did he even play any mins in midfield last season?
From what I remember it was mostly CB and FB._____________________________

1st September 2026 at 4:36 pm #255427Endo has hardly played ginger. My point os at least he shows some balls for a real battle and if fully fit, he could do no worse the current lads starting
We are a soft touch.
Gravenberch hasnt the nuts for a battle at atough away ground.. None of our starting midfielders suit the managers style.-

1st September 2026 at 4:52 pm #255430I agree we could do with a more combative midfielder, whoβs not afraid of tackle, who can sense the danger coming, has more defensive instincts but they also need to be highly mobile to do what Iraola asks of his midfield 2.
While Endo tick the earlier boxes from what we want he definitely doesnβt tick the last box from what Iraola wants.Thatβs not to say Iraola doesnβt want a midfielder whoβs prepared to throw in tackles.
When you think back to Klopps midfield of the likes of Hendo, Milner or Gini, all were able to press and get about the pitch but they were also all prepared to put in a tackle.
The same canβt be said of Grav and Szobo at the minute but it may come._____________________________

1st September 2026 at 4:57 pm #255431We got one of the best attacks in the league, our midfield could be better balanced but we a few players that would into any lineup. We are good for centerbacks. I just don’t like our fullback situation but we know Szobo is actually better there than any of our fullbacks. Might even be better there than Trent, he has basically the same passing range and is a bit more disciplined. It’s a bad situation.

1st September 2026 at 5:05 pm #255432Fair points ginger, while its far to early to judge iraola football style, atm its like watching slot ball. No intensity and slow football. Chief culprit Szobo holds onto the ball far to long at times and slows us down
From the 1st min we saw klopps style. All im seeing now be wide y in midfield , a shambles a high line, severe lack of intensity and playing szobo at rb!
You guys are tactically more astute then me so what changes can you see from last season? Just curious as im probably not seeing it. Maybe full backs are staying more wide??
I know its very very early days

1st September 2026 at 5:19 pm #255435Enzo going to City. WOW! Doku, Semenyo, Enzo, Cherki, not to mention, lots more of other new faces and Top players. They’ll push Arsenal.

1st September 2026 at 5:44 pm #255436Sean I think things like work rate an intensity could take half a season before we see a noticeable difference. What you can see already are the players less likely to recycle it back along the back line, they are already looking forward more with their passes. But overall a lot of last seasons issues exist especially the space between the midfield and the forever retreating VvD.
Regarding Endo, it’s who I would play for some aggression in certain matches, not who I think Iraola would play. But of all our midfielders I’ve seen including pre season it’s only Nyoni I’ve been impressed with. Disciplined and willing to play line splitting passes.

1st September 2026 at 5:47 pm #255437Chema Andres to Brighton for 20m? Someone I championed way at the start of the window.
We’ll look at him in a year for 80m.

1st September 2026 at 6:07 pm #255439Sean our fullbacks just need to stop pushing up the field, we got four attacking players, we do not need an extra player up the pitch making a run. Kerkez is getting a lot of undeserved criticism right now, he has not been the problem.
The solutions to our problems is basically just telling certain players to stop pushing that far ahead.

1st September 2026 at 6:22 pm #255440Saar reportedly still wants out. I get the feeling this is Guehi all over.
We’ll be sweating on the 11th hour.
Minteh also rumoured. Do we get 1, 2, or end up with Zero π

1st September 2026 at 6:27 pm #255441Minteh, even injured, I would take. Thought it was daft when I first read but as long as he is back before the next window I would pay now. He is tailor-made for an Iraola system.
Sarr, no. I really dont get this at all, other than he plays in our problem position. He doesnt have the skillset we need, and if anything will hinder the likes of Wirtz and Isak.

1st September 2026 at 6:42 pm #255442If Kerkez stays put for one game and Frimpong stops bombing down the right flank and just supports the right forward by staying in his position. Then half our problems are solved, we need to have the same talk with Gravy and tell him to stay put in his number 6 position. Then 75% of our problems are solved. The other 25% is lack of cover for the right fullback. Unless we play Szobo there and give more gametime to Nyoni as a dedicated number 6 to cover for Gravy with the same instructions.

1st September 2026 at 6:54 pm #255444Yeah fair points 3p’s on Saar. I had him in my mind as a more of a Striker than a Winger. Minteh realistically wouldn’t see this middle to the end of October. I’m not that much as excited but if it happens and he can make a difference complimenting the squad, then so be it.

1st September 2026 at 7:30 pm #255448No way, we are not paying that amount for Sarr, 50 million in today’s market would be kind of fair considering he scored 21 goals last season but he has no resale value, this would be his one and only big contract and the players agent is trying to get him to Turkey. Where he pays less tax, it’s bullshit paid by his agent.

1st September 2026 at 7:32 pm #255451Same thing with Minteh, his agent is paying for those rumors to increase his market value or contract. We would never sign either player.

1st September 2026 at 7:36 pm #255453So weve tried to get Malo Gusto on loan and have failed so far.
This is a recognition that we have an issue at RB.
