I wouldn’t have Casemiro or Maguire near the first XI, but I think their personalities and ability to come in for different scenarios (Maguire when we desperately need to get a goal or when the opponents are bombing our box and Casemiro when we need a cool head in midfield when we’re 1-0 up and under fire) would help the squad next year. Martinez is a curious case because we are very visibly better with him at CB but yes: hes a crock for the most part… but then again I can’t see INEOS getting rid of both De Ligt and Martinez, so I’d prefer keeping the latter personally.

17th March 2026 at 12:38 pm #241725Your visibility and mine must be markedly different Sympathy, because I see Martinez as too slow and to small, his only positive characteristic being his aggression which, ironically makes him a liability. And he carries the ball out from the back no better than Maguire or any of our other CBs. You say you wouldnโt have Maguire anywhere the first eleven, yet heโs demonstrated regularly that for all his lack of pace, heโs still the best and most reliable defender at the club, a fact agreed by most of the punditry. I was against buying him in the first place and said so at the time, but at the moment weโd struggle at the back without him.

17th March 2026 at 1:11 pm #241739Dee – What Carrick is cultivating is better form and more points than anyone in the league since he’s taken over. Including Arsenal. If he’s given the job permanently and 6 players are added in the summer then he has the tools to go and have a decent season next year.

17th March 2026 at 3:41 pm #241757Happy please do not misconstrue my words โฆ I reiterated the fact that clearing out 10 players who will only slow the progress achieved will not in any way affect what Carrick has achieved.
When teams get promoted from the Championship they can buy as much as a whole first team Eleven.. we can do the same by focusing on those 6 quality first team additions and then supplementing with good back up options.
Arsenal bought 8 first team players last summer so no one on here should say we cannot do the same.

17th March 2026 at 4:30 pm #241762Dee- of course it can be done and it must be done.Whoever says otherwise is either lying or isn’t a United fan.Why would any fan think that with the likes of Shaw,Arry,Malacia,Dalot,de Ligt,Martinez,Case,Mbeumo,Cunha,Amad,Mainoo,Ugarte, you are likely to even come close to fighting for major trophies,is beyond me.Madness!

19th March 2026 at 3:53 pm #242002If you keep Carrick, will he have more bias towards English players? Keeping Mainoo and shaw etc. Will he be a yes man? Can he attract top players? If we went for Enrqiue, he’d likely want a promised kitty to spend, Carrick may be somebody who wouldn’t be given as much to spend as a top manager?

19th March 2026 at 5:16 pm #242005Dee, I hear what youโre saying although I think getting 6 players to go straight into the first team would be pushing it. 4 players I can see but not quite 6.

20th March 2026 at 7:59 am #242025People need to wake up. Its about building a proper squad. Not only the first XI,we need a good bench too. If we qualify to CL there will be many more games plus the domestic cups we went out early this season.
So yes,we need plenty of new players and plenty of players who needs to go._____________________________

20th March 2026 at 9:22 am #242031Zico. signing squad players or players who are good for the bench is just code for they aren’t good enough to get into the current starting 11.

20th March 2026 at 9:25 am #242032as for how many we will sign. I think we’ll sign 2 players for our first 11. one midfielder, and one somewhere else, possibly a third if we sign a back up keeper. do we need more? absolutely. a lot more. but mount will be ‘like a new signing’ plus we might extend casa for another year, same with Maguire, Martinez will be ‘like a new signing’. so basically the same old tune. as for the midfielder we will sign, I think it’ll be baleba for 70, and it’ll be labelled a masterclass because we got 30 knocked off. I think it’ll be a poor summer of recruitment.

20th March 2026 at 10:15 am #242036Two midfielders is an absolute minimum requirement given that Casemiro will leave and Ugarte may. The club is also rumoured to be looking for a wide man and a left back. So I think thereโll be at least four incoming, especially if they want to make a decent fist of CL football. As for Martinez and Mount, theyโre both crocks, neither is anything more than mediocre and we should get what we can for the pair of them. The CBs need to come from Maguire (1 year extension), Yoro, Heaven and De Ligt (another crock). A new CB would be a bonus but wonโt happen. Zirkzee will go, so maybe a back up striker, as long as we can somehow get rid of Rashford, who I predicted from the outset would bounce back from Barca at the end of the season. Itโs certainly going to be an interesting window

20th March 2026 at 1:43 pm #242045JM – You’ve always had a blind spot when it comes to Martinez. But we are definitely a much better team when he plays, much more assured at the back. Yoro has done well in this spell in his absence but i think the 2 of them could be our starting pairing at the back next season.
There is definitely something strange going on with De Ligt’s injury isn’t there? Carrick was weird as fuck when he was asked directly about it in his presser. Why won’t they say what the injury is and when he was asked if he’ll require surgery Carrick said “i don’t want to get into that”.

20th March 2026 at 2:03 pm #242046@happy – You’ve got more blind spots than Stevie Wonder matey!๐๐ Please enlighten us all as to just how in fucks name Lisandro Martinez could ever be one of our “starting pair” of CB’s next season when over nearly 4 seasons at OT and 144 PL games played he has managed to start just 61 of them, that’s a totally fucking pathetic 42%!
Seriously, you’ve spouted so much fucking nonsense over the last two decades and more that has never come to pass, and yet just when I think that you surely can’t get any worse here you go doing it all over again!๐๐_____________________________

20th March 2026 at 2:05 pm #242047We look better with Martinez for the one game per season he plays.

20th March 2026 at 2:38 pm #242049Good point MUFC, but how would anyone know weโre better with Martinez when he never plays more than two games in a spell. But notwithstanding that, I just donโt see him in any ideal back four of mine. Heโs aggressive and has attitude, which often backfires, but heโs not quick enough, big enough or technical enough. Ten Hag should have bought Timber, not Martinez.

20th March 2026 at 2:45 pm #242051jm1502- we have to loan out Martinez,de Ligt, and Mount next season,as nobody in their right mind will pay anything for them.Just like with Onana,Gashy, and Sancho,we simply have to accept the fact that they are done @ OT,and maybe even in the PL.

20th March 2026 at 3:30 pm #242055Not only can Martinez never be considered as a guaranteed starter neither can that escapee from One Direction Lenny Yoro. Not only is he too young and inexperienced at 20 years of age to be given such a responsibility I highly doubt he will ever be good enough or robust enough to do that job, simple as that.

20th March 2026 at 7:02 pm #242066im a big fan of Martinez. I think he’s got a lot of technical skill, JM. although I will admit besides his horrendous injury record he is too aggressive. having said that even if he weren’t injured I’d probably prefer timber. what a player he is. and I think arsenal basically paid nothing for him, 20 million or so. wasn’t he also an injury concern when he went to the arsenal though? I seem to remember they bought him crocked. sometimes those things work out, like with timber and obviously gudogen at city, but most of the time they don’t.
as for Yoro, he hasn’t impressed, but its not surprising as he’s only 20 and has no protection from the midfield, so I’m not a fan of his but neither am I detractor. jury’s out. if I had to sell one CB now, which I think we should only to be able to have options and cover, it would unfortunately be Martinez due to his injury record.
mainoo contract talks progressing I’ve just read on TT. whoever is writing the united articles on there, this one was written by Bailey but marshment does them as well, must be related to happy. Bailey is talking about what an unbelievable season he is having etc… absolute drivel.
if it was me doing the deals I’d sell Ugarte and mainoo first and get two proper midfielders in. if we can get a third I’d sell casa. that gives us 3 midfielders which is one short of what we need but there is no way united are buying 4 ready to go midfielders in one window.-
