Providing we qualify for Champions League football next season. Realistically how many players do we need.
Watching the last few games, it’s made me realise just how weak our bench is.
Yes we need to sign two CM but that’s not going to be enough.
My fear is that we will be similar to Newcastle the season they played Champions league. If we’re in it, the minimum requirement must be getting a play off place whilst more importantly making sure we’re in the top 4 next season.
Unless we improve our squad we’ll struggle next season!_____________________________

@Diggy – We will need more numbers as well as extra quality for sure, and it doesn’t help when you’ve got a handful of players who basically contribute three fifths of fuck all due to persistent injuries eg Martinez, Mount, De Ligt etc. We then have others like Zirkzee who again just never really contribute anything.
I reckon we not only need to replace half a dozen, we need two or three extra on top of that but I highly doubt those clueless Ineos goons will see it that way._____________________________

Diggy-need much more than that, as teams like Bodo Glimt will tear us to shreds, let alone everybody else!
Players like Dalot, Shaw, Arry, Ugarte Mazraoui Zirkzee -all need to be fucked off. Then you have players that are always injured, in Martinez de Ligt, Mount, who contribute fuck all except in our wage bill._____________________________

Anyone who thinks Mainoo can command a regular place in a two slot midfield should rewatch the last few games. Once again the guy was slow, weak and lethargic yesterday. He should be looking to receive the ball all the time, sit in the pocket and dictate the game, but he just gives two and three yard passes and the occasional more expansive effort.

NEW BACKUP10 players in for 11 – 14 players out… if we get CL football it’s doable. I’d keep Casemiro and Maguire for an additonal year just for the experience and mentality in the squad, because those two (along with Martinez and Lammens) seem the only ones with any drive. If we don’t get a good price for Mainoo then I’d give him a one year extension (as it will be more expensive to replace him) and then look at it again next year.

How are you all saying keep Casemiro.. yes he is a threat from Set pieces but come on when we are out of possession it’s like playing with 8 outfield players because him and Mainoo do not exist in that midfield when we need to win the ball back which is understandable for Casemiro’s age but he needs to be moved on and not kept.
Selling Mainoo is a no brainer but it won’t happen because we have never have smart people making decisions for the club. Martinez also has gats to go because his unavailability will only put us at a disadvantage.

I think the only defensive player we’ll sell in the summer is Malacia.
It looks likely that Maguire will sign a 1 year extension on reduced wages. Therefore I feel the Club think we will get by next season. The following season I think they’ll look at the defensive unit. Again I can only see Ugarte and Zikzee (apart from those already on loan with obligation to buy and Casemiro) being sold. I think they’ll look at the likes of Mount and think he will be happy as a squad player. Don’t think we’d get anything for him anyway. He’ll end up leaving on a free unfortunately like many other poor signings. Btw this isn’t what I want like most on here I feel we need a good clean out. Unfortunately I think we’re going to be disappointed. Hopefully I am wrong_____________________________

Diggy – Yep, agreed. Carrick is trying to cultivate a squad spirit and you don’t do that by selling 10 players as sympathy is suggesting. I can see Ugarte, Zirkzee and Malacia leaving along with Hojlund, Sancho, Rashford, Onana and Bayindir.
That’s it.
We’ll need a huge squad for next season with the ability to rotate for cup competitions. Again you don’t sell 10 players when trying to build essentially 2 squads.
I expect a goal keeper, 2 midfielders and a left winger to come in. Then a replacement for Zirkzee up front as back up to Sesko and maybe a full back. Then a few youth players._____________________________

If Carrick is kept on (and it’s a big if), he doesn’t need a massive squad because he isn’t rotating at all right now… Sure it would be better to have 16 or so top players that he’s happy to rotate rather than keep a bloated squad with players he can’t depend on.
Also, what culture is there worth keeping at the club? The one where the players can’t be bothered to outrun the opposition ever and don’t have the desire to do what’s necessary against 10 men? The squad “culture” has been one of the biggest problems since Fergie left. We need an overhaul badly and need serial winners across the team. Carrick is keeping players motivated, which is different from culture: a proper squad culture will keep players motivated anyway, and true pros don’t have mood swings like our team seems to have (only Maguire and Casemiro seem to have that proper pro mentality, hence why I’d keep them in the squad for a year, merely got that experience)

Any crackpot who think that the likes of Casemiro and Maguire are going to be signing one year deals on massively reduced wages are living on Fantasy Island, it just ain’t going to happen.
There’s also the Lisandro Martinez contract situation that cannot be ignored, he’s a fucking crock entering the last year of his deal so the only logical decision would be to try and find a buyer for him now, but unfortunately logical decisions and Ineos don’t exactly go together so fuck knows what will happen with him.
As for the rest, I would definitely look to shift out any of our current full backs because none of them are good enough but I suspect that particular can will be kicked down the road yet again, deary me._____________________________

Blacky, yes Casemiro has definitely gone, back but if we get Champions league football. 100% Maguire will stay the next season. He’d rather play one season champions league with us then leave rather than go now. That’s how I see it

@Diggy – What he would rather do is almost irrelevant at this stage of his career and at 33 years of age. It will all be about securing the very best financial package he can get, and signing a one year deal on reduced terms with us won’t be floating his or his agents boat whatsoever, simple as that.

If they give Maguire a new contract it’ll be 2 years and they may be able to get his money down a bit, but let’s face it, these cunts can’t negotiate with anyone about anything. Don’t forget that JJ Gabriel will be eligible to play next year, whether he’s actually good enough to make his debut is another matter. He’ll still only be 16, Rooney was a physical freak and was easily able to adapt to the PL, it’ll probably be a different matter for JJ

Happy.. you saying Carrick is trying to foster a motivated culture hence we shouldn’t get rid of 10players is plainly daft .. how much longer do we persist with the likes of Mount, Dalot, Martinez, Deligt, Shaw, Mainoo.
It’s called a clear out for a reason but it won’t happen because of the people in charge. Heck if this was City or Chelsea or Arsenal half of the above mentioned would have been got rid of already. We have players who can’t burst a gut to win the ball back for the team or sprint ahead to make runs for their teammates when we attack and you wana keep them on??
