Nice to see Garnacho finding the target with 2 good finsihes.
Overall, not encouraging. It seems that Rosenior will play a similar style to Maresca which is troubling. He even said the team is ‘well coached’ which troubles me.
The intensity of the team is encouraging – Enzo really is world class. But we need a stronger central defence behind him. And we need a far better Keeper. Sanchez is a shot stopper, but not a top GK.
We have always played to our best with the players available when we had a top Keeper, be that Cudicini, Cech, or Courtouis.
Sanchez is a liability.

16th January 2026 at 6:29 pm #236961From the extended highlights, I thought that Chelsea played decent against Arsenal. Their first 2 goals are purely Sanchez’s mistakes.
Ed: While I agree with you that we won most trophies when we had a top keeper, and you forgot Ed de Goey by the way, he was top, I don’t think it’s an immediate concern. The centre backs are a more urgent concern and I read that Chelsea would spend for a new centre back this month for Rosenior. I thought that Chalobah & Fofana are solid, but with Colwil absent this whole season, I think a new centre back would be welcome. Tosin is there for his leadership but we can’t rely on him. Too slow. And Badiashile, not good enough.
We’ll play against an in form Igor Thiago. I think we should try buy him in the summer. From a few matches of Brentford that I saw: the guy knows how to find the back of the net. He is always in a good position to score. When Schade had a hattrick, it could have been Thiago as he was always there too in the box. And he is of the same age as Enzo, as Joao Pedro, as Caicedo … so he should be in our age bracket.

17th January 2026 at 9:48 am #236982Thr centre half they aiming to get is only 20 years old. Makes zero sense to bring in yet another inexperienced defender. Good Keepers are hard to find we unfortunately have to make do with what we got till next season. As for a CL place although its still possible dont think we will make it this time. Theres too much competition for those top 4 or 5 places and we rely too much on players who seem to be unavailable for whatever reasons most of the time. Not to mention we have a new manager with even less experience than Maresca but with the same style of play. Hope for the best.

18th January 2026 at 2:51 am #237186The most unimpressive 2-0 win I’ve ever seen from this club but a vital 3 points which is what counts right now. Next up Pafos of Cyprus in the Champions League at the Bridge and David Luiz returns home one last time. I’m sure the fans will give him a rousing ovation. He deserves that after a stellar time with the club and being such a likeable fella as well.

18th January 2026 at 4:03 pm #237208Horrible performance – Brentford were much the better side. Both goals we scored were not down to us but rather opposition errors; we continue to look unable to unlock other teams.
Anyway, 3 points I guess.
If Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, we look to set to spend 60m on a 20 year old defender from Rennes – Jacquet. Whether or not he is good is irrelevant, that much money for a 20 year old in a position where we desperately need a proven, experienced professional is just nuts.

19th January 2026 at 3:13 pm #237257A bad performance. I just hope that Rosenior isn’t blind to see that Chelsea did not deserve to win against Brentford. Two fluke goals. Sanchez saved the day. Cole Palmer did not look fit at all yet played 90 min. But so far, I don’t see what Rosenior is doing as the team performs just as cr*ppy as before, if not cr*ppier.
About the potential now centre back, from the 2 candidates: to be honest the one from Como (ex Real Madrid) looks more convincing to me. Tall, physically reminds me of Dean Huijsen. But so far the one from Rennes who has gained more ground, I believe this may be Rosenior doing as he knows France (Ligue 1) having been a head coach in that league for almost 2 years.
We badly need one more good centre back as Tosin isn’t good, Badiashile isn’t good, Fofana cannot play too many matches as he is injury prone and Colwill is out this season.
I expect Rosenior to rest key players like Enzo & Cole Palmer & Cucurella & James against Pafos. No offense, but I think we should win against a team where a 38 year old David Luiz is their star player. Give players like Delap, Andrey Santos, Acheampong & Jorrel Hato a chance to play. Caicedo should play though if Enzo is rested, we need a leadership on the pitch.

20th January 2026 at 11:51 pm #237318Possibly David Luiz will not feature as he suffered injury in their most recent match. We will see. I hope he does get out there. He would get a great welcome home I would imagine not withstanding he left us for Arsenal. A lovely chap and a real character too.

21st January 2026 at 9:53 pm #237370Truly woeful performance considering that was all our best players. Didn’t see the Brentford game but surely it could not have been worse. Watching the game was worse than when maresca was in charge

22nd January 2026 at 1:20 pm #237402I only caught the extended highlights. We seemed to generate more chances than with Brentford, but that’s to be expected. We were quite wasteful and our midfield/wingers aren’t goalscorers in the same vein of the likes of Lampard, Hazard, Robben etc of old. Delap seemed uninvolved.
Caicedo is excellent but with these types of drab performances, realistically we’re only putting him in the shop window. The likes of Real or Barcelona would spend big money on him and our owners would literally pack his bags for him in the event of such a bid.

23rd January 2026 at 7:16 pm #237481Same here, only watched the extended highlights. It looks that Chelsea played better than against Brentford. But it’s Pafos. So a 1-0 win isn’t reassuring at all. Rosenior hasn’t impressed me at all. Although to be fair, he’s just started. Let’s see Sunday away against Palace. I wouldn’t be surprised if Palace (in crisis, Guehi left and Mateta asked to leave) beat us

24th January 2026 at 11:58 am #237504Rosenior has been in charge 18 days to date and managed 4 matches. He has made it clear that after match day followed by recovery there has been insufficient time between matches to make a substantial imprint. Clearly that is the case and he has called for patience. Remember also he has spent time individually with every member of the squad getting to know them all personally. He impresses as an excellent man manager and wants to have every player happy and onboard to start with. Way too early to expect notable change.

26th January 2026 at 2:31 pm #237858I think after Estevao’s goal, Chelsea played really well. Before, not so much, just ok. But look at how Estevao can make a difference. He was amazing, confident, should have scored one more with his sprints. I really think he is ready to play more games. Not just some odd starts by here and there. He is ready to start. He is a much better player than Garnacho is. And his connections with fellow Brazilians Joao Pedro and Santos are working well. Reece James was again inspiring. We need to keep our captain healthy. Enzo Fernandez controlled the midfield.
Next will be Napoli away, I guess Cole Palmer was saved for this game. A win and we could go to the quarter straight away, so it’s really important seeing how many games we’d had to play early this year. It’s not impossible but it’s a tough ask, as we did only just (1-0) against practically the weakest team Pafos. Fail to win, it’s 100% sure that we’ll need to play the 1/16 round as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Man City are all lurking and they will play at home against weaker oppositions Wednesday.

26th January 2026 at 3:54 pm #237864Second time this season we have been fortunate against Palace.
Harsh penalty.Another Badiashile mistake nearly cost us.
Agreed Aindro palace looked the most likely to score before Estevao scored.
He is a superstar in the making.Wednesday will be a tough game!
we need a win. Lukaku and Gilmour will be up for it
A new formation of 3 5 2?
we need to nobble McTominay lol_____________________________

26th January 2026 at 6:17 pm #237876srilankanblue: I don’t think formation change is what the team need. They are still adjusting to Rosenior’s style of play. Rather than formation change, I would suggest to field the strongest team. Which would mean no Badiashile, no Garnacho, no Hato, no Delap. And probably no Cole Palmer if he is not 100% fit.
This will be a tough match as Napoli need to win too. I start to like Enzo as our no:10 as he is not that good in defending. Playing as no:10 gives him more freedom to roam and to win the ball. And he is much more mobile than Cole Palmer. I also like the duo Andrey Santos – Caicedo in our engine room. Them playing together can limit McTominay’s movement. And Lukaku as much as he is a lethal finisher, he is very slow. That’s why he did not succeed in Premier League. I am more afraid of Hojlund than of Lukaku. Not sure if de Bruyne is fit for this match?

26th January 2026 at 10:15 pm #237887I understand what you are saying Aindro.
Rosenior style is high press and quick passing.
However some players may benefit in new roles.my point was really for the Napoli game.
my opinion is to win that game to save playing 2 more games.
Conte is a wily old coach. he switches positions between with ball and without ball.you understand how 3 5 2 works, i used it many a time, especially the first 20 mins in a cup game! pressing hard to get early goals.
cheers

28th January 2026 at 9:05 pm #237994For now it looks like weβre gonna miss the top 8 UCL phase 1. It wonβt be easy to equalize and then to win at Napoli. I expect Rosenior to introduce Palmer in the beginning of 2nd half

29th January 2026 at 4:17 pm #238048First team to beat them at their ground in 13 months!
I didn’t understand why he didn’t start with Chalobah.
Our defense should have done better for the two goals.I was getting worried when we went 2-1 down, but credit to the team for turning it around.
I am still not confident when they try and play out from the back.

30th January 2026 at 4:09 pm #238076Young_blue: LOL π :D. Jamie Carragher.
srilankanblue: I just watched the extended highlights. I think Chelsea played quite well. Napoli’s first goal was a wonder but Joao Pedro first goal was even better. Out of nothing. He really needs to replicate this in the league, where IMO he hasn’t scored enough goals nor created enough chances.West Ham next. I hope that Rosenior doesn’t think at all about EFL Cup semi at the moment. One match at a time. I still suspect Cole Palmer won’t start and will play impact substitute against West Ham. I think we have to get more wins in the league to be able to finish in the top 4. The top 2 won’t change, even I said top 3 before but if Watkins is injured, it will be a big loss for them as he scored quite a lot recently.

2nd February 2026 at 7:52 am #238344I’m over these Jekyll and Hyde performances. It seems the coach selects a ‘weakened and vulnerable’ side to start with trying to rest and preserve certain key players and reacts once damage has done and fortunately not extensive damage giving us time to recover with Rosenior basically making obvious changes to create a side that should have started the match in the first instance. He better not do that on Wednesday against Arsenal or we’ll be sunk inside the first 5 minutes with no way of recovery. Every time that Badiashile starts I cringe. He’s a disaster waiting to happen.Garnacho after his brace I thought was finding his way and would be more consistent and confident but subsequent performances were, yet again, piss poor. Caicedo has been a bit off lately and probably needs to be managed better however when he is missing our mid-field is porous with central defenders more exposed than they would like. Colwill back next season fully fit partnering Fofana and Lavia in there with Caicedo and Enzo pretty solid too. In the meantime the coach has 6 wins from 7 so can’t complain with results, just fractured performances.
