Palmer is too inconsistent, he’s gone missing this season compared to last year. Maybe Maresca was the difference there, I don’t know. He’ll be lucky to go to the World Cup on current form. It would cost more than £100m to get him from Chelsea and he’s definitely not worth it at the moment.

Wouldn’t touch Valverde, good player but would cost a fortune and not sure about him in the PL. Bowen is a big no – he’s too old and he’s a one club man. I would have looked at Scott as our second midfeid signing. Someone who would get adequate game time based on his ability to cover Mainoo and our new DMF. He will be 23 at the start of the season and has loads of potential.

@Jumpers – But what happens if/when our new DMF is injured or suspended? A midfield combo of Mainoo and Scott could easily get horribly overrun, that’s the reason why I wouldn’t have him as one of only two new midfielders this summer. Same goes for Wharton at Palace because we are badly lacking pace and intensity throughout the entire squad as it is without bringing more players lacking those attributes in as well.
