There were two checks on the non pen. First, was it in the area. Yes. If it wasn’t then a free kick would have been given as var cannot check for free kicks. But then it becomes a pen check which var checks for the criteria necessary for a pen. It wasn’t a pen, so drop ball.

Ironically we would have had a free kick in a good position if a few centermeters further outside.

Nothing at all like the pen against Brentford.

But the ref didn’t give a pen, he gave a free kick. So why did there need to be a check on the pen, that wasn’t a pen. Further more. The ball went out for a corner. It was horrendous officiating and nothing is going to convince me otherwise.

Harry anything questionable as to if its on the line or outside will be checked. Its fairly black and white, you can’t pick and choose. So as it was deemed inside VAR then need to check the actual offence and rightfully deemed it as no hand ball.

Var was spot on in this case.

I disagree. If the ref had given a pen then maybe. I’ve never seen a free kick that didn’t involve a red card be overturned.

Harry var deemed it a penalty offense as in the box, you can’t have a free kick then just because you dont want var to check. So once it’s deemed a penalty check it was cleared rightly so. Only outcome possible was a drop ball.

It’s the rules.
