Fabinho didnβt get in our best team either at the start.
He started that CL final Iβm talking about.

4th November 2025 at 8:53 am #229834That’s true but I don’t think that’s the point Sean is making, correct me if I’m wrong.
When Wirtz is up to speed, fully settled, where does he play and who misses out?
When he signed just about everyone said it was Szoboszlai that would be dropped but I said no he’s too important. I said MacAllister but I think Slot wants his control. And it won’t be Gravenberch. So who?
I cannot imagine he was sold on the idea of joint Liverpool over the likes of being a fulcrum at either Bayern or City when Liverpool offer him the status of squad rotation.

4th November 2025 at 9:08 am #229835Liverpool play 50-60 games a season.
This is Salahs 9th season at Liverpool and he pretty much has been an ever present in the team.
Even he only plays 30-34 games a season (bar his first season) so Wirtz may get used to being rotated.
When up to speed/form he can play 10 or left sided attacker if we stick to the 4-2-3-1. If we alter formation other options open up.
I suspect we may alter formation when Salah goes to AFCON.Start of last season Gakpo shared the mins with Diaz off the left; until Jota was injured and it was obvious that Nunez wasnβt up to it so Diaz was moved central.
If Wirtz fulfils his potential he will play most games too. But now he has to step up and show what he can do.

4th November 2025 at 9:35 am #229836Interesting conversation lads
Time will tell. Be interesting to see if he starts tonight. I think he might and we night see szobo at right back which is hust not right.
Also interesting take from carraggher on our press. Still quite concerned about a man for man press which will leave huge gaps in midfield
Madrid will love that.

4th November 2025 at 9:42 am #229837Hi Sean,
I honestly think the ultimate plan is Iask and Eketike Up front, Wirtz as 10, 3 midfielders behind, and two attacking fullbacks. A lot of disruption and form issues have stopped this happening and we might have to wait until Mo is not a guaranteed starter or moves on next season. Gakpo is and always should be a good squad member. I prefer him off the bench._____________________________

4th November 2025 at 10:07 am #229838Slot on Wirtzβ¦.
He makes a good point on Gravenberch being young and taking time to adjust to the Prem.

4th November 2025 at 10:40 am #229840“So songman he plays instead of szobo?”
Definitely not, Sean, he plays instead of Mac Allister, and move Szoboszlai back into No. 8 alongside Gravenberch.

platic1, so basically, you are suggesting that Slot is now going to ditch his tried and tested 4231 winning formula (in two leagues) to a radically different 4312, and crucially, with no wingers?
Personally, I don’t think so, and looks like me to be a failed experiment, if it does happen.

4th November 2025 at 10:54 am #229845But ginger that just tells us what we’ve heard many times already, he needs time to adjust. No one is denying that. But what it doesnt say and what isn’t overall apparent is what the long term plan is with him, and how it affects the rest of the team.
I agree with Plastic that could be the plan, or rather it should be the plan given the players we bought. Spend big on Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz and you’d expect the plan is to play them together, plus as you say attacking full backs. But Slot has never played that way and if he was thinking about a change surely he would have tried it in preseason?
Unless this season is part of a long transition and we’ll finish it next summer when we buy further players to accommodate Slots grand plan? Or Hughes was like a kid in a candy shop and didn’t actually plan the transfers with Slot?

4th November 2025 at 11:09 am #229846You seem to be working under the assumption that ALL the players will be available AND in form ALL the time.
In the above link Slot also mentions the amount of games and having to play 3 games a week.
As previously pointed out even Salah (whos ever present) rarely breaks playing 34 games a season.
When Wirtz gets up to full match speed/form he will likely displace someone.
That’s the nature of football.

4th November 2025 at 11:20 am #229848I just can’t imagine he was sold on being a rotation option when he would have been the main man at City or Bayern. And j can’t imagine one of Szoboszlai, Gravenberch or MacAllister being happy about being one either.
Despite all the talk that we hear every year about rotation and the amount of games, there will be a hierarchy and that will affect players happiness. You need depth of course, but you need the right depth. It never works shoehorning stars in a starting 11.
For me and for different reasons there’s only one transfer in the summer that actually makes sense and that’s Leoni.

4th November 2025 at 11:26 am #229849Ginger, i get that with rotation and injury but you havent mentioned were you think he will play
If everyone is fit do you think he starts in a final?
Songman says szobo goes 8 and macca droos out, i cant see that.
Who does he displace? I know its up to slot but im totally with threeps. There seems to no plan for a few of these guys wr signed.

4th November 2025 at 11:36 am #229851Everyone’s a rotation option bar possibly VVD and Salah due to, as previously explained by Slot, the amount of games in quick succession.
“And j canβt imagine one of Szoboszlai, Gravenberch or MacAllister being happy about being one either.”
Again you’re working under the premise that all the midfielders will be fit, available and in form at the same time for lengthy periods.
Currently we may be seeing MacA coming back into form, though yet to be firmly established, Grav is just back from injury while Szobo has been ever present so far, although some of those games came at right back.
IF we have ALL our midfielders and attackers ALL in from and match fit at the same time, what a fantastic dilemma Slot will have. Although that may be the optimal position he wants to find himself in come the depths of the season playing 3 games a week.
I wonder how many times this season that will actually occur?
I need to make a correction to my previous post re Salah.
I was incorrect.
He featured in the high 40s to the low 50s virtually every season._____________________________

I can see that happening, all day long.
And it’s already happened three times so far this season, when Mac Allister was available on the bench – against Palace, Atletico and Brentford.

” but you havent mentioned were you think he will play”
I did. Several posts ago.
“If everyone is fit do you think he starts in a final?”
I’ve yet to see a fully up to speed Wirtz in a red shirt so there’s no way for me to make that decision.
Again your hypothetical situation would be under the assumption that all the other midfielders are all fully up to speed and available for the final. Or indeed the attackers.

4th November 2025 at 11:49 am #229855It sounds great to have many top level players at the club but it has caused issues before. Heard of the “Harry Kane” syndrome? Spurs struggled to get 2nd no 9 of any quality as they knew they’d be playing second fiddle to Kane. Or look at Alvarez at City, an exceptional player but knew he had to move as couldn’t displace Haaland.
Yoy don’t buy the likes of Isak, Ekitike or Wirtz for squad rotation, for squad depth, you buy them to be the first names of the team sheet. I see Carragher has been saying something along the same lines with Isak recently.

Yes I think Slot has recognised that the system stopped working two thirds of the way through the last season.

4th November 2025 at 6:55 pm #229865Mamardashvili, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike.
Subs: Woodman, Misciur, Gomez, Endo, Kerkez, Chiesa, Jones, Gakpo, Ngumoha.
Not the strongest bench so let’s hope the starting 11 do the biz!
