The final group phase game before the knockout rounds which commence mid February.
Our visitors, Qarabag are the 12-time Azerbaijani champions and have never progressed past the group stage of a CL campaign before – their first and only previous adventure in 2017-18 ended at the first hurdle – but they are well-placed to reach the playoffs this time around, seeded or not.
They had a great result last week beating the 2022 Europa League winners Frankfurt 3-2 to move onto 10 points – good enough for 18th place in the 36-team table – and they sit two clear of Napoli outside the knockout berths.
Should beat these (said that a few times this season) but would not be surprised to see Colombian striker Camilo Duran bag one (or two). He will cause us problems. A U11 forward could cause us problems.
Who will start?
Alisson, Frimpong, Konate, VVD, Kerkez, Grav, Jones, Szobo, Wirtz, Szobo and Ekitike. Likely a mile off but I don’t want to see Salah start.
I think Qarabag will score, most teams do against us (70% of teams have this season) but we will score too.

well if I would play a team the same team of one player it would be Szobo, he is great just to prone to mistakes and he like Gerrard says, if he cuts that out he could truly become world class in his position.
I can see us winning 1-0 in this game, with Anfield getting absolutely fed up with our game play. Hopefully it will be a convincing 3-0 victory but I honestly think this will be the last game for Slot.
We will likely win the game but only because of the standard of our squad compared to theirs, I suspect Van Dijk will either play brilliantly or have his worst game of the season.
As long as we keep our shape I am predicting a 2-0 victory for us with one set piece scored.

‘Four available defenders, that is pretty bad…’ Yes, it is on the surface of things, but drill down a bit into the detail and we have Grav, Szobo, Jones and Endo who can all fill-in to a back 4 to fairly acceptable standards – which should be sufficient for a Qarabag fixture at Anfield.

Slot might try to be too smart tonight, I can see us having no shape at all tonight. Cause you are right red, we can fit a lot of midfielders into there but Slot should just play the four defenders we have. Robbo can play as a center back as well but Slot will try to fit a midfielder or two into the defense.

Sean, I hear you. Our 7 and 11 spots really are pretty shit atm with Mo and Gakpo. I’d fuck both off and go wing backs with Kerkez and Frimpong. Back 3 of Robbo, VVD and Konate. Double pivot of Mac and Grav. Szobo as the 10, Wirtz floating, playing off Ekitike. Something different but won’t happen. Before anyone freaks out about three at the back, in possession, it’s essentially 3 at the back currently anyhow.

Underestimate this opponent and we will be punished severely, the players have been warned.

What we will see is Alison, Kerkez, Endo, Van Dijk, Frimpong, Gravy, Mac, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Wirtz and Salah. Then around the 60th minute Frimpong will be subbed off for Jones and Szoboszlai will move into the rightback, he will wait for too long for Gakpo to do anything else than cut on his right foot.
I´m hoping for a 2-1 win lol

One thing thats become very noticeable now is our lack of fitness. Wr don’t look conditioned for the pl.Its so confusing as slot said last season he wanted us super fit for ten games a week
Eitike very rarely finishes a gameZ Writz absolutely shot after 60 mins. Why say plan was to take off kerkes on sat? Why start him. Think its ginger who always says we have two keepers on tye bench. Why? Fill it with an outfield player
Slot really is starting to do my head in. Plsyets coming in noe have hardly played. Grav has been average this season and over played. No surprise if szobo pulls up soon. Its like we havent a clur with some things.Its at the stage now were there so so many questions and no solutions. We have loads of big problems

Sean that was a shocker alright, but not the first this season. I still think Semenyos goal in the first game was the worst I’ve ever seen us concede at Anfield. And that wasn’t because of individual mistakes either.

Nobody needs to approach the game with anger and that type of aggression, just pride and defiance. More than anything, focus, concentration, and work ethic. Something we’re knowingly capable of.

Sean, yeah a total headscratcher and wish I knew the answer. Against last season, we simply seem cursed with injuries. Why is there a problem with us finding the needed stamina when it comes to injury time especially?
Something in training we are not doing on when on the pitch?

Slot does not trust his players to remain fit, there is no other reason to it, half the guys had a easy summer. Van Dijk actually got some rest, it´s Slot who makes it into a issue. We used to hate seeing Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum line up every game, every week. The same thing was with the defense, they played week in week out. Salah, Bobby and Mane did the same! Slot needs to be smarter than everyone else to prove a point that does not exist!
