Surely this game could not be any worse than that absolute cluster of a match against this lot at Anfield last season. One goal, granted, should have been an offside but they also had one disallowed and simply were by far the way better team. That game marked the first time in 60 years we’d lost consecutive matches by 3+ goals. Rubbish.
Forest didn’t get off to a good start losing to a late goal at home to Leeds. Conceding late against Leeds? Where have I witnessed that before? BTW, Tanaka who scored that worldly hasn’t scored in the league since and probably won’t ever again.
Who will start Saturday? I don’t think this will be far off:
Ali, Frimpong, Jacquet, VVD, Kerkez, Grav, Mac, Szobo, Gakpo, Munoz and Isak is my pick.
Liverpool 3 Nottingham Forest 1

26th August 2026 at 5:16 pm #254499Itโs not too hard to predict our team for the most part.
Thereโs not that many options.Muรฑoz starts right for me.
Rio had an ineffective and torrid time against a very good left back which should come as no surprise playing a child out of position away from home.If Wirtz doesnโt start home games as the 10 when does he start?
Is MacA up to speed yet? Can he play 90 mins? Can he play 60?
Gotta watch out for Igor, Gibbs White and Sangare.
If our midfield continue to a vacate the centre of the pitch expect more of the same.

26th August 2026 at 5:27 pm #254501Iโve seen it in Robโs tea leaves that weโll concede first – no idea why I should think that!!

26th August 2026 at 5:31 pm #254502Every chance Mac as we’ve conceded first against them in 3 out of the last 4 games and haven’t beaten them at Anfield for 3 years.
I absolutely fully expect them to score.

26th August 2026 at 6:21 pm #254504Amit Bhatia, the new Liverpool vice-chairman, is set to attend the Reds’ first home game of the season at Anfield on Saturday.
Strong rumour is that Barcola was meant to be in squad, but that expectation will full short. Deal off?!

26th August 2026 at 8:03 pm #254515Leeds were on top last night having sort of kept an eye on the League Cup game last night. Twice in succession they took out Forest.
Glasner in charge. I don’t think he’s quite found his way yet in Nottingham.
Happy Home Debut for Andoni and Smiles ๐ 3-0 Liverpool

27th August 2026 at 9:38 am #254546I want to see some big improvement in this game.
Our midfield just cannot be bypassed so easily again, I’d drop Wirtz for Mac Allister, to regain more control, but I can’t see Iraola changing the way he plays (yet), with all our midfielders pressing high up the pitch.
And the players need to get their act together and cut out their stupid mistakes.
Now let’s win it emphatically, no excuses.
Alisson
Frimpong Jacquet Van Dijk Kerkez
Gravenberch Szoboszlai
Muรฑoz Wirtz Gakpo
Isak-

27th August 2026 at 10:53 am #254557There was a pattern notably last weekend and possibly in one of our late preseason games where we do assemble just outside the penalty area a line of bodies.
This of course gives a player more options, but that can also potentially draw confusion and the wrong pass leads to possession lost and the counter that we are vulnerable too.
That’s on us from committing a body too many. We need to be careful and be able to match the pace; essentially position ourselves accordingly.

27th August 2026 at 10:57 am #254558Passing across the front of the box invited the counter attack when…
a) a shot was on
or
b) a pass to Szobo was on.At that stage with so many players committed to the attack the ball hadda go dead.
Whether thats with the ball going into the back of the net or going out of play._____________________________

27th August 2026 at 11:33 am #254561I just had to say it.
If dropping Wirtz to the bench ensures we control the midfield to enable us to win consistently and challenge for titles, so be it. I don’t care how much he cost, ask Richard Hughes about this.
And I don’t care how good Liverpool is at attacking and pressing if they can’t control the game in midfield to retain possession, defend and speed up or slow the game as required, the best examples of this approach being the best team in the world, Spain – the masters of balancing attack, defence, possession and control.

27th August 2026 at 12:39 pm #254575Of course songman, the first thing you wanna do is destroy the confidence of any player.
We are very likely to see the same attack start our next game, Gakpo, Isak and Rio on the right. Wirtz in the hole, I would like to see Macca start but only because he actually took control of the midfield and started barking out order to everyone around him but I donยดt think he is ready just yet.
Same defense as well, unless Araujo gets the nod over Jacquet.

27th August 2026 at 12:48 pm #254576I would play Araujo. His pace, power and exceptional 1v1 skillsets are suited against a Glasner team.j

Totally wrong Notorious, the first and ONLY thing I want is for Liverpool to win every game, and if it means certain players being dropped, so be it, and I IDGAF who the player is.
As for destroying Wirtz’s confidence, the only one destroying Wirtz’s confidence is Wirtz himself, with his subr par performances. If he doesn’t get his act together, he’ll be dropped to the bench consistently.

27th August 2026 at 8:01 pm #254628Generally a good draw, but yeah, it’s Athleti. They’ll be really up for it.
Andoni’s first experience too at the big stage with us.
