Lookman another one. I think he’s still playing in Germany isn’t he? Definitely seems more common now. So, even if they aren’t getting PL minutes, I think a lot of them are good enough to play at a very high level elsewhere before hopefully coming back

Southgate has said that he won’t change the tactics and I think he’s probably right if we are going to compete with the likes of Spain etc we have to be able to hold on our own in possession, passing and chance creation.

That doesn’t mean though there’s no place for a defence splitting long pass for a pacy forward to run on to and we have players that can deliver pasees like that in Jonjo Shelvey for instance but he’s not getting selected personally I think he’s worth giving a run of games to to see what he can bring to the team despite the doubts about his temperament.

We were never quite as good as being WC Semi finalists made us out to be or indeed a 6th place world ranking but like the Ed I see some real positives with what’s coming through behind this England squad which will probably have a very difficult look about it by the time of the Euro Finals.

As to the question of Foden, I trust Pep s handling of the lad. He knows he has a potentially wonderful player and I believe he will use him this season, it will be next season when we see the whole benifit, very similar to the way Stones has been handled. This mad rush to get him into the England squad now is only because we a midfield crisis on our hands, England, I do not want the City player being pushed in like Rashford and others players because we have no experienced head to guide us on the pitch. Rashford, for me is a talented lad but when I watch him he does not appear to know where he is supposed to be. I believe he should be in the middle, give Kane a rest but get somebody to play with him as well. The youngster of to day, like Foden will blossom next season and some of what we see now playing, will be history

I too would take Maddison,Chilwell,and Gray from now on-on regular basis.Rashford has to leave United ASAP if he wants to progress-Shearer seems to think so too.Ali needs to improve a lot,he has time in his side!

Don’t think anybody is suggesting the return of hump it and lump it, but I think the last 10/12 Engerland games have shown us the “tiki-marsala” style of footy Waistcoat has us playing (one for Goose there!) simply allows the oppo’s to retreat back in numbers and highlights the lack of any creativity we have.

I think Southgate is right to experiment tonight despite the fact that another defeat will be four on the trot and media pressure will build on him. It’s not about beating Switzerland it’s about trying to build a side good enough to compete in the Euros.

Switzerland have just thumped Iceland 6 nil so it won’t be an easy game whoever he selects after which we have Croatia and Spain away.

I’ve just read that Sterling hasn’t scored for England for 26 games! 3 years apparently since his last England goal. Can that be accurate? You have to wonder if he’ll get back in the side now after Rashford’s 2 in 2. Alternatively, could Rashford and Sterling be the two up top and let Kane earn his place back in the team?
