Let’s see if we can get a debate going here…

A slight continuation from the squeeky bum time thread, and comments there from numerous members about the amount of money involved and the dross the majority of teams are serving up every week and I have a thought….

Are we seeing the results of clubs (and so-called managers) simply assuming spending money will win you the prices, and a modern day managers skills are more related to lossening checkbooks than managing a team…

Logic would have suggest Pool should have been out of sight this season, a championship winning squad, half a billion spent on some 100m pound plus players, and a team that, with all die respect, went backwards…

Can I suggest we’re entering an era where the art of building/managing a team has been forgotten, and half-decent managers are getting lucky with certain chairman only?

On the Subject of Players money will talk as you know when there’s an active interest. Inflation is fuelled when that demand increases from the interest of multiple clubs. Semenyo and Guehi this season as 2 examples.

Chucks when you mention Art, I’ve always held an Argument of Clubs limiting themselves when recruiting for new players. They are eyed usually in Europe or even more directly from the Prem.

Rarely to I see any risk taken from a player bought from the Championship and Lower Leagues. This didn’t happen when I was growing up (which is a while ago might I add!!). Andy Robertson a rare example of a player bought from the Scottish League.

Adding to this, a Manager really investing in youth within the club system; given opportunities and unleashing them. I don’t notice a great deal of this.

And Characters; Where are they? Sure we need players built with a Skills-Set, but we need Characters and Personalities.

Take Sancho, for example.Waste of talent, money, and space! Same with Rashford,Grealish,Phillips, and to a certain extent,Sterling.Where on earth is Mudryk, who cost close to £100m? Fofana,Lavia,Garnacho,Badiashille,Disasi,Hojlund,Pepe,Marmoush,Doku,Gvardiol, all extremely overrated, overpaid. So much money available,so few great football players!

Gents, that’s the thing, I think the art of managering has been lost. Today, a manager walks into the building (start of a bad joke!) and the first thing he says is how much money have I got? And when he’s spent it all, and the team haven’t performed, then it’s all the chairman’s fault for not giving him enough cash…

Of course, there are still the elite managers out there, but they are few are far between these days…

And player loyalty is waning too…

I have absolutely no idea what the stats might say, but I’d be willing to bet two weeks of Buffy’s giro the amount of comebacks over the last 10/15 seasons has got lower each season, as players just don’t care any more and can’t be bothered to role up their selves to turn a game around…

Mav, that model is an absolute gravy train. Players can’t be that naive enough to think there’s a long-term career in Chelsea.

Yeah Chucks, there’s more to a Team than just splashing money at 10 individual players. It’s development, nurture, instilling behaviours, attitudes and setting the right example. It’s Man-Managing and the ability to connect with a player building trusting relationship. It should in essence be a Second Family.
