I hear Maignan has agreed a new contract with Milan to 2029. He would have been able to negotiate from the 1st of Jan. A few clubs, us included, have missed a trick there.

I’m seeing rumours of Onana going back to Inter. Given how they reported that they laughed him out of the building when he left for us, I find that very unlikely.

Vitek having a very good season in Championship. Could be a very good backup/ Cup game option next season. Bayindir offers nothing. Should never have been signed in the first place

Lammens looked like a hobbit when Arsenal scored their second goal.
In fairness he did some good savings in that game but looks vulnerably at freekicks and corners.

Is the whole “Players are great after they leave United” myth really all it’s cracked up to be? Yes, most players make an immediate impact with their new clubs when they join (which triggers the media to jump on the myth bandwagon), but let’s have a look at the major players to have left recently:

Garnacho: hasn’t really done much at Chelsea and is mostly an impact sub without much of an impact

Rashford: 8 goals (3 of which were in CL routes against Olympiakos and Copenhagen) doesn’t exactly scream back-to-form for me… yes, he has had some great moments at the start but, given that he seems to be a regular corner and free-kick taker, I’m not exactly impressed by his numbers given the numbers he showed at United.

Antony: Again, a good start for Real Betis, but he’s managed 9 goals this year and 4 came in the Europa League – not exactly setting the world alight right now.

Hojlund: Doing well for Napoli (though still in the honeymoon phase)

Lindelof: Doing OK for Aston Villa (nothing to shout home about though)

Onana: Again, a good start but has actually only had 3 clean sheets in 15 matches … in Turkey

Sancho: Not really done anything at Aston Villa

McTominay: Class for Napoli (one of two standout players to have left)

Greenwood: The other class standout player to have left

AWB: Good start with West Ham but hasn’t really pulled up trees recently

Van Der Beek: Not sure if he’s even getting a game at Girona

Martial: Again, not even sure what’s up with him these days

Elanga: Was great when at Forest but is struggling at Newcastle

Could keep going, but yeah: not utterly convinced that we let go of actual “good” players (besides McTominay and Greenwood) – all the players seem to have honeymoon periods at their new clubs and then revert to type like they did at United (i.e. good in glimpses but overall not meeting the standard required).

He’s very likable but that doesn’t mean he should get the job. If we get into the CL then all it should mean is that he’s guaranteed to be on the shortlist come the summer. He’ll get to interview for the job, that’s it!

Whenever there’s an international tournament; LUKE SHAW somehow tends to stay injury free and available for a selection while also managing to not be the worst defender for us.

Not sure who’s favourite to get the manager’s job in the summer if they don’t give it to Carrick, but Spurs will definitely be looking at the likes of Glasner and Iraola. Interesting summer ahead.

Sounds like they’re going to try to get the best available manager. Not up and coming and not “knows the clubs DNA” either.
I’d say Tuchel is probably the favourite although talk now of England extending his contract to 2028!

Fine in the short term, can do great things but he’s a bit of a Mourinho. He’ll burn the place down around him after a season or two.

yeah we definitely don’t need a short term manager, Killy. someone like klopp would have been my dream signing. it hurt watching him do what he did at liverpool. don’t know what he has left in the tank now though and he would probably never come to us anyway now.

Tuchel has extended until 2028 .. so that’s him out of the running… Carrick has had a decent start but the Fulham And WestHam games showed him up … also he would never be my first choice because sometimes a top manager needs to be ruthless to coax the best out of players at a top club and i don’t see that ruthlessness in him..

You might not see ruthlessness in him, Dee, but i don’t think many managers would have taken 13 points from those 15.
