Agree Steve. Saddens me too, as I was hoping he’d take the job at Anfield after Klopp 😄

I’d say only Zidane could formally be considered a truly great player out of that lot and he went straight into managing a load of world class players at Real Madrid. And Ancelotti, Conte & Pep all pretty much went straight into managing top teams. So it’s a harder one to decipher, though I think you could throw someone like Klopp into any club and lift them, whereas if you threw Zidane in at Villa, not sure how he’d do.

SAF, Wenger, Malcolm Alisson, Klopp, Rodgers, and on and on. What makes a great manager is definitely nor just a great player.
            Roy Keane??
Lampard Gerrard, Rooney not great managers yet.

Stevo, my comment was about great players rather than Gerrard himself.

Very nice to see even though on 3 games, different teams occupying the leadership.

Just a slight flashback of the early 90s when some teams would have good early starts. It adds a bit of spice to the mixer. Maybe nothing too deep to read into as it’s early days, but we never know.

Good Draw for Steve Cooper’s Forest. I’ve got a strong feeling they will hold their own in this league of this campaign. There’s some confidence that oozes and he has an Aura that transmits onto those players on the pitch who really do not take their status for granted and graft.

Unfortunately, the spot-light will be on Gerrard if results continue to be negative. Sadly, that’s the climate we live in. It looks overwhelming from what he tremendously achieved with Rangers against Aston Villa. I always think in my mind it’s a step a little too high too soon. I have to say there is no way he is ready for Liverpool as much as I dearly love the bloke.

I think with Rodgers right now there is mental games being played with the board and if so, it’s pissing me off. The lack of transfers and the off-field management of the squad (Kasper leaving on the eve when Pope and Henderson were both available only weeks prior, Fofana being left out of the squad due to possible transfer when he only signed a 5 year contract weeks prior) are nothing to do with him. However, why the #### he is picking Amartey and Perez over Soyuncu and Tielemans/Albrighton I have no idea. I feel like it is a show of petulence from him to the board to show them he doesn’t have the squad to compete, when in reality we have a very good strongest XI available, he’s just refusing to pick it.
We have lost two games now we had no business losing, we dominated and created the most chances in both games, the opposition were terrible in both and yet they won both. The selections and uncertainty are really hurting us. I’d rather the window be shut now so we know what players we are moving forward with for the rest of the season, this window still being open is plaguing the squad mentally. I still believe that with this squad and no more major injuries we could fight for a top 6 spot, but we need momentum and there is currently too much uncertainty.

Nil, Gerrard was successful at Rangers but it’s a poor League and a two horse race for the title every season Villa is a much tougher role.

It’s a nice story Gerrard going on to manage Liverpool but he’s got to be good enough to do that and in fairness he’s got plenty of time to turn it around but I wonder if he will ever be considered good enough to manage Liverpool.

I see that Jurgen Klopp is claiming that if United fans protesting against the Glazers causes so much disruption that the game has to be called off as previously then United should forfeit the game with the 3 points awarded to Liverpool.

He’s probably got a point but I can’t see it happening if that’s the way it goes which would be a real shame.

Foxy, Leicester dominated possession but they had 6 shots to Southampton’s 9, 1 shot on target to Southampton’s 3 and 2 corners to Southampton’s 5 and Rodgers himself admitted that Leicester lost their way in this game.

I’ve got no idea why Rodgers hasn’t been allowed to strengthen the team but that’s not helping and neither is the transfer speculation re Fofana and Madison which one way or other will be over by September 1st. If money comes in you would hope that Rodgers gets to spend some of it.

A top 6 finish looks a tad optimistic currently.

I think that’s entirely fair Nine if I’m honest (giving Liverpool the points) and I don’t think the protesters would be too fussed. People can ask how that helps the team but that’s exactly the point. The protesters want the sponsors to start having doubts and backing away from Utd, further putting pressure on the owners. There’s some momentum now with all the Ratcliffe stuff. Most Utd fans would happily take an awful season in exchange for getting rid of the owners.

Yeah I get that Ed and Ratcliffe as the new owner would probably unite the United fans too although personally I don’t think fans protests should be getting games called off.

Just to wade in late with the great player great manager debate I’d say Viera looks the best of the recent ex Premier league lot although at a club with lower expectations and can happily play defensive football. Not sure he would be successful at a big club there’s a lot of difference but he looks tactically astute.

Pep was a pretty good player in his time. In three different countries he has shown with the most resourceful team in the league he can actually meet expectations and win that league. So I’d say he’s not a bad manager 😉

No I’d prefer it didn’t need to come to that but I can understand their frustration. Protests have historically had little to no effect on the Glazers and the fans are becoming tired of nothing happening. If the rumours are true about the Glazers considering selling, I guess they feel this is their chance to really ride the momentum and create further unrest in the family.

Ed, yes I get that but the rumours that the Glazers are considering selling United are based more on hope than fact on the back of a poor United start in the PL, the minority sale and Ratcliffe’s people raising their head above the parapet and talking up Ratcliffe’s interest in buying United.

So far the only indication is that the Glazers are considering a minority sale and that the Glazers have no intention of selling United in totality.

You can’t rule out the effect the Glazers have had on United’s spending but a lot of money has been spent on the wrong players which has not got anything to do with the Glazers who are often a convenient excuse imo.

Nothing wrong with having a demonstration as long as that is what it is and providing it doesn’t disrupt the game in any way.

I think people get this idea Nine though that the fans want the Glazers out because we’re not doing very well. The Glazers have never been welcome and protests have been consistent right through the most successful periods. The debt put on the club, which remains pretty much unchanged since 2005, is just not acceptable nore the dividends and interest payments leaving the club’s accounts. There’s a massive misconception among other fans that Utd fans just want to be able to spend more money which is just so inaccurate. I think if you asked the majority of Utd fans, they’d happily get relegated to get them out. It’s far too simple to point at the transfer spend and wonder why Utd fans are annoyed. The stadium is a state and the training ground now far behind its rivals. Young players don’t want to come to us any longer.

Some of Utd’s most successful periods have seen protests soon after or before.

Nine, if you watch the game back they barely had a shot until after we scored and then Rodgers decided to make weird substitutions and make us sit behind the ball. That’s when they racked up the chances, not before

Saw the highlights on MOTD this morning Foxy you can’t get a clear picture from that.

But the stats still show Leicester only had one shot.

I think there’s a bit to be put right at Leicester currently it’s all a bit uncertain.
