One of the British Transfer Record Signings of Summer 2025.
Of course, there is Sceptic and we may of all have had our doubts, but this Lad really had knuckled to be fair to him with a First Class Attitude I must say. New Big Money Signings need a Break and something to go for them in Process.
He’s growing and influential when it matters. Would like him to be a Phillipe Coutinho haha 🙂 🙂

31st January 2026 at 11:18 pm #238193Quality. Had zero doubt that a player from the Bundesliga would be a success as there has been many before him that have been.

1st February 2026 at 8:51 am #238198A player I’ve followed for a few years as a local lad so had no doubt about his quality, despite being informed that young Germans never make it in the PL or mocked for comparing his style to Iniesta.
A like a summary I read in the summer, Brazilian flair combined with German efficiency.
Absolute joy to watch, imagine what he can do in under a coach that plays with a more expansive style.

3rd February 2026 at 6:29 am #238437If we are going by the last 2 premier league games… then hes been poor. Just watched the Newcastle game, he did well for the assist, great finish and put salah through not long after the goal.
Besides that, he was woeful in possession… i lost count how many times he lost the ball or failed to complete a pass. Really happy hes getting the so called “assists and goals” to his name.. but make no mistake hes been poor of late in the premier league games.
Now thats not to say I’ve given up on him or money down the drain, hes still young, works hard and hopefully he can settle to become a ballon d’or winner, but atm hes not exactly worth the £125mill we paid for him, people need to calm down with all this hyperbole crap.

3rd February 2026 at 10:36 am #238445Troy Deeney’s team of the week:
Florian Wirtz (Liverpool): I have been saying for weeks and months that with a player of that quality, it was only a matter of time before he settled into it. These past six weeks we have seen the real Florian Wirtz – dictating games, his passing range is unbelievable. The goals and assists have started to come now and he is looking really strong.

3rd February 2026 at 3:32 pm #238476I don´t really know how to describe him yet but I think we have a generational talent on our hands, he doesn´t really remind me of De Bruyne even if I kind a hope that Wirtz will live up to his legacy but rather David Silva on steroids.
I actually believe he can be delivering around 20 goals and 20 assists from a deeper position, he is that good on the ball, everyone else in our midfield is playing backup to him as of now.
I do believe we need another midfielder in to bring the absolute best out of Wirtz, cause I remain convinced that his best position is as a number 10 in midfield with two capable player backing him up and clearing up.
He is better than both Szoboszlai and Mac Allister going forward, way better, he reminds me of Bobby sometimes, that extra vision to open up space and bring others into play.
I want another industrial player behind him, a non stop worker that can physically dominate that space in front of our defense with Gravy. Two defensive midfielders backing him up, players with the ability to pass the ball and hold onto it under pressure.
Szoboszlai is asking for a new contract but the club might chose to sell him or Mac Allister to make space for a more defensive midfielder in the summer. The reason why I think one of them will be sold is because they also operate best as a number 10. Szoboszlai is also willing to work anywhere for the team and I hope he will not lose out because of that but I genuinely believe that either one of them will leave in the summer.
Cause Wirtz will be the focal point of the midfield when we are full strength. I hope it´s the midfield rather than the forward line as I think we will score more goals with him in midfield, the whole team will score more goals.
We still have not fielded our strongest team this season, which I would argue should look like this.
Alison, Robbo, Van Dijk, Konate, Frimpong, Szoboszlai, Gravy, Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak and Salah. With a bench of Gakpo, Mac, Jones, Kerkez etc. That´s a strong enough team to win the Champions League I reckon, with good options from the bench.

3rd February 2026 at 4:27 pm #238479We’ve had to face difficulties out of the multiple changes in circumstance. The cross-over or changeover in management in personnel would lead to new faces.
Not just for the sake of it, but individual quality/ability they can bring and how this can and will benefit the team.
I watched over the last few days the 2013/14 Rodgers and the Klopp 16/17. What a variety of players we had then in quality. I often think now and question did I appreciate them enough?
Our age range of players collectively are very similar which means we’re underpinning a rebuild or a revamp for the future. Whilst the high volume of change in sudden has hindered us with challenge, with maybe 2/3 more players to cover the right playing areas, we will be growing than decline. I’m hoping we’ll be signing another Tune on Wirtz next season. I have high hopes 🙂

4th February 2026 at 8:02 am #238523Bingo agree with what you are saying.
At Leverkusen Wirtz played left sided no 10. On that left side were Grimaldo playing as a playmaker fullback and backed up by Xhaka in midfield. All very good on the ball and so play was concentrated to that side. Next to Wirtz was a hard working no 10, Neuhaus? Neumann? Neusomething… He did more of the leg work, let Wirtz just float about and do his thing. This was in Alonso’s 3421 shape.
He can easily play the no 10 solo in a 4231. The issues we have is that we don’t play with anyone really sitting although there have been positive signs that is being improved. Give him a strong stable base behind him and lots of movement in front and he’ll thrive.
He’s not a de Bruune type. He hasn’t got the range of passing of the Belgian but is a better dribbler. Silva is more similar, or and whilst risking ridicule, Iniesta. That combination of close control, vision and hard work these players had in abundance.

5th February 2026 at 12:47 pm #238573“despite being informed that young Germans never make it in the PL”
I fully stand by my statement that I made about young German (and Italian) players not setting the Premier League alight, and even their senior players (to a lesser extent), especially compared to much smaller European football powers such as Belgium, who have produced the superstars Courtois, Kompany, De Bruyne and Hazard.
And even with Wirtz, he did indeed struggle initially, taking 23 games to score his first goal for Liverpool.
BUT this is also what I specifically said about Wirtz before we signed him, based on FACTS, basically I said I was totally in favour of us signing him for ÂŁ116m, for the following two reasons:
1. Wirtz was clearly the best player in the Bundesliga, winning the following awards over two seasons:
– Bundesliga Player of the Season: 2023–24
– VDV Bundesliga Player of the Season: 2023–24, 2024–252. Unlike Isak, he was fairly priced compared to his contemporaries. I was totally against his initial price of ÂŁ126m, but I fully supported his final price of ÂŁ116m, because that is in the ballpark of the other three comparable midfielders Rice (ÂŁ105m), Fernandez (ÂŁ107m) and Caicedo (ÂŁ115m) – and Wirtz has already proved to be just as good as them, settling in even faster than Hernandez, for example.
Onwards and upwards for Florian Wirtz, and if he keeps improving at this rate, and bulking up in the gym, he could be the best German player to play in the PL, here’s hoping that happens and he wins us the biggest trophies as soon as possible, starting this season

5th February 2026 at 4:30 pm #238585yeah threeps, I just described him as a Silva on steroids as he is much more physical, I think it´s very likely that we will sell Mac Allister in the summer to make space for a more defensive player to back Wirtz up.
We already got 3-4 forwards capable of getting into double digits, I think that formation you suggested would bring out the best of him, cause I am seeing the same ability from him I saw from Bobby. Bobby was never a true striker, either a false nine here, on the left wing or in midfield. I doubt we would go back to that but Wirtz can orchestrate things in that number 10 role.
I actually think that Szoboszlai should stay rather than Mac Allister. Szobo workrate is such that he never has a bad game, in any role we play him. Even with the occasional mistake he has made, he usually makes up for it.
If Mac Allister leaves it will be for Real Madrid probably, that would leave one of their midfielders hanging at least or two of our former targets as not everyone can play.
Real want to break some player hierarchy team stuff going on there, the management there might not always take the right decision but the fanbase demands it. Vini is very likely to lose out in the long term, big portion of the fanbase is fed up with Bellingham but I want neither one of them.
I´d take Tchouaméni in a heartbeat and Camavinga, also Valverde but I doubt he is going anywhere. If we got either one of the first two we would have some team. They would be perfect as a backup for Wirtz, there are a few more capable players out there but I suspect someone like this profile will come in the summer, plus another defender.
4231 makes perfect sense if we build around him and I think he was brought here on that promise and he is that generational talent we should build around, I don´t see him as a disloyal player either. He could have moved anytime from Leverkusen at any time during his career if he wanted. He choice us as he can actually make his own name here as a balon contender I think.
I wanted a player like him in the summer, signing him succeeded my expectations of who we could get it, I wanted Palmer first and foremost but that was only because I thought Wirtz would be out of reach. I thought about Xavi Simons as well, who I do rate and I do think he will eventually find his feet here but he went to the wrong club.

5th February 2026 at 5:38 pm #238588He’s always been advised by his parents for the good of his career rather than his bank balance. He was at Köln originally but instead of resigning he saw the step up, albeit not a huge leap like at Bayern, to Leverkusen. Suffice to say it worked out well for him.

5th February 2026 at 6:06 pm #238589he got 9 siblings, his only older sibling his sister also play professional football and his father is the chairman of a woman team in Germany. That sounds to me like a family obsessed with football, at a very high level. It´s not even a old team but they are doing good actually, we will probably see a few more Wirtz popping up in the next few years. That´s also his agency, imagine that, we got real gem on our hands.
I doubt we have ever signed a better prospect as he is still just a prospect! We need to go back to Daglish or Keegan for that, maybe Barnes. I see true Balon potential in him and he is not like Vini who is obnoxious out there on the field. Wirtz is hard working and humble, maybe we see a bit more personality when he gets used to the accent and everything but it´s all there.

5th February 2026 at 6:18 pm #238590I know very few would agree with me about Thiago but I actually think he is the best midfielder I´ve seen play at the club, the best technical player that has ever played for us. Just his 45 minute debut proved that, it was 99 touches on the ball and I think 97 passes completed.
He was injury prone, not highly injury prone and I would always take the gamble on a player like him, we almost had a perfect season with him, if he had managed to stay fit for 2-3 more games we would have won everything that one particular season. Such was his influence in midfield, Rooney was right when he said he was scared about what we could do with him on our team. It is a shame that it did not work out in the way we wanted but you always gamble on a player like that.
Having said that I think Wirtz can be better, I don´t remember a single player for us at that age doing the same thing except Gerrard. Bossing that midfield at that age, there is not a single player, that has done that in the last 30-40 years.
If I am not right about him following the steps of Keegan, Daglish, Barnes and Gerrard, then I will owe you lads all a pint. We will see in 5-8 years
