I think Man Utd look more cohesive under Rangnick and look more of a team but I think they lack ruthlessness under him. So they’re better but not that much better. Yes it’s early days, but even in Klopp’s early days you saw his traits very quickly in the team and we even got to finals under him in his first season when we had no real right to. Rangnick looks what he is – a bridge the gap manager with a methodical demeanour. I think the next manager has to be more of a galvaniser. I hear what Ed says about Ten Hag and I understand the idea of wanting to instil a football philosophy and have a long term continuity at the club for the fans to attach themselves to but I just think a manager at a club like Man Utd has to be a real leader and galvaniser to move them back where they want to be. All the best managers are. The days of a Wenger type revolution I think are over. I accept there aren’t many candidates that spring to mind for Man Utd, but I still would have put Conte in charge even if he can be volatile. You could have then changed him as soon as a better more long term candidate became available. That’s what ruthless winning clubs do – use people and then have the guts to change things when they think necessary even if that may initially be unpopular. But I think the Man Utd board are just desperate to find a silver bullet who will take care of everything so they don’t have to make many decisions like they had under Ferguson. But life rarely works out like that.

My eldest Grandson has tested positive for Covid today which kaiboshes their family Ski trip in a couple of weeks. Most important thing though is he gets over it ok there will be other Ski trips.

Tuchel testing positive for Covid is a problem with the World Club Championship next week.

Why was the goal allowed to stand?
Crooks’ goal came in the 64th minute as he was teed up by Watmore, who was able to bring down a pass from Isaiah Jones.

However, the ball bounced up off Watmore’s foot and onto his left hand before he fired the ball right into Crooks’ path for the leveller.

United players surrounded referee Anthony Taylor in protest, but the goal was given as VAR determined that Watmore’s handling of the ball was accidental.

Updated rules say that a handball can only be called if a “player deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, moving the hand/arm towards the ball”.

A goal could be ruled out if the player “scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper”.

By the letter of the law, the goal would have been disallowed if Watmore himself had scored but, as the handball was accidental and in the build-up, the goal was allowed to stand.

Coincidentally, the goal would have been ruled out in the 2020-21 season, prior to the tweak in the rules.

Adlab, thankfully after carrying another test out yesterday, it’s come back Negative. I don’t whether it was omricon, but took a lot of me over the past week. Horrible to say the least. Thankfully, it will clear completely going into next week.

Regarding the hand ball, I think common sense would say to me that even if the contact was accidental – the contact on the ball actually helped the attacking player gain an advantage because the ball would have drifted away from him had he not caught it – by touching it, it kept the ball close to his body and allowed him to help keep the move alive. But common sense has long gone over such matters.

I think I may be in the minority re the handball – reminds me of my secondary school days when play would be stopped to go over what had happened and collectively decide. For me it was accidental and rightly the goal stood.

I guess it all depends as to whether it was deliberate handball by Watmore or not the Referee, VAR and former Referees all say it was accidental and thus it fell within the new handball rule like it or not.

Fair play to Plymouth, they’re having a go. Is it me or are some of the smaller teams starting to feel more confident vs the bigger teams now? Related to the higher press the bigger teams adopt? Feels more like the FA Cup of old.
