“Devastating” timing for Arsenal to need 11 first team withdrawals through….”injury”… with World Cup qualifiers still being played never mind final WC squad selection/coaching..
Truly “bad luck” when their nearest Premier League competitor has only had to withdraw max 2 players to injury. Can’t have been easy for Arteta, with clear Fifa rules on legality if any suspicion it’s a clubs unscrupulous tactical club decision. Would a point reduction for each Lazarus player who returns to play next week in their next “competitive” match after Southampton be justified ?

Nearly on a level with the French league altering fixtures the weekend before their prime representative plays in the CL quarter finals?

Is this anywhere near level legal playing fields or is a president or two running football..

Mikey, if not already, you may well be interested in this. The Wording actually makes me smile 🙂 https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php

Now, I could easily go all political but I would only be a hypocrite. If we’re putting this in Context, then one would understand the attitude of caution especially when we are nearing to the end of the domestic season and the commitments that are high stakes.

By all means, I’ll try and give the benefit of the doubt and assume the players would have commit to both Friendlies from the Start.

I skimmed through the Calendar and there’s not a great deal of time for players to recoup once finishing the season and switching to World Cup Mode.

The only simple and straight-forward solution is to have open and honest talks. I’m sure the final selections chosen above all will be objective and on Merit. In the same breath I would add to those players who really have dedicated themselves for their Nation should definitely be given consideration, and perhaps ahead of those who have given as much as they should.

Good post Adidas. I’m trying to open discussion expressing “factual opinion” and walking the fine line where every club draws ire from opposing fans.
It was more focussing on Arteta. He has definitely set up this season with the City model of assembling a giant squad with effectively two first teams. That said in my opinion (like Slot) he hasn’t used his full squad efficiently and rotated talents of Lewis Skelly or Nwaneri and therefore isn’t prepared to roll the dice of his chosen first team players health. Let’s see who plays in CL next week to see the likelihood that rules have likely to have been ……………

            Thanks Mikey.

I hear you on the Subject of the Gunners. Their style from what I’ve seen this season, and beyond has changed. I agree. It does appear not the full squad is utilized throughout and this facet as you’ve pointed out does remind me of Man City.

Being a Liverpool Supporter, I would love a Big Squad of players we can fall back on and be in more comfort and assured to be able to compete on multi-competitions.

I believe this notion for players to pull out of Internationals is not something new but something that’s gone on for a generation. The Wider context is that:

            – Game still of course goes ahead
            – Broadcasting on TV goes ahead
            – Fans still have to pay I would imagine premium prices for Tickets at Wembley
            – Players still being paid

And Thankfully for the Integrity of our Sport, both sets of Teams will compete as Professionals than fall into the mindset of Testimonial.

In spite of my previous reply on this, I do sense some form of ‘Player Power’ and Compromise whether this is morally right or wrong maybe we need a rethink on Attitudes, Priorities and which players are better suited to be chosen.
