Ain’t looking at the league table as dealing with this fixture is enough. This and United. Either could be rock bottom of the PL and it wouldn’t make the slightest difference in how the games unfold.
Everton will want three points after drawing at Brentford last weekend (better than what we did!) but have been inconsistent at home winning 6, drawing 4 and losing 6.
Who will start?
Mama, Gomez, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Grav, Mac, Szobo (need more for those three as a unit, way more), Rio, Gakpo and Mo is my pick. That line-up doesn’t fill me with eager anticipation.
Absolutely no clue how this will go. Coin toss (as it usually is with us). Still reeling from last season’s bollocks when we allowed the Lee Evans lookalike, twatty Tarkowski (only scored one goal since) to equalise, wait for it, post 90 minutes! You’re shocked I know!
Will Slot learn from successes here from other teams (United, Leeds, Brentford, Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham, Villa)? I doubt it.
Home win or draw therefore relying on Chelsea to screw up at home to United and Brentford at home to Fulham.

17th April 2026 at 9:04 am #243941When Liverpool were in their pomp and Everton at a low ebb we still struggled to win away; a draw the usual result so agree with Rob regarding form etc.
Regards our team, once again if we are not up for the fight, play with intensity and do the basics right it doesnt matter what the team is or the formation.
Having said that I would want Robbo and Jones starting this as they get what a Derby is all about; they will be up for the fight.
I do not want to see Isak and very possibly Wirtz start this.
Isak is not fit enough to start a game yet and make any sort of impact as we seen the other night never mind a game of this intensity, and I dont think Wirtz has the physicality to start this.
Im torn on Rio starting. While he does give that directness, the physicality and intensity particularly in the first half might be too much. He could make a fantastic sub to bring on for last 20-30mins.The first half of these games tend to a slog of a battle before things calm down with the result tending to be decided in the 2nd half. We’re not fit enough to battle for 90+mins so subs are vital.
Might be an idea to continue with the 4-2-2-2 due to lack of forward options and also allows us to pack the midfield.
Perhaps…Marma
Frimpong, Konate, VVD, Robbo
Gravenberch, Jones
Macca, Szobo
Salah, GakpoLeaves us decent options off the bench such as Wirtz, Isak, Kerkez, Rio to kick on the 2nd half.
MacA looked knackered the other night on 70 so cant see him lasting much more than 60 of this.Im gonna be optimistic and go for the draw while hoping for the win.
We need to keep putting points on the board at this stage._____________________________

17th April 2026 at 10:40 am #243945The hangover from Tuesday could be telling. I just hope the lads can pick themselves up for it, so perhaps a Merseyside derby is the ideal game to get the adrenaline going.

17th April 2026 at 11:46 am #243947Everton have been beaten six times in the league this season at their strangely-named, dangerously steep stadium.
Let’s become the seventh team to do the same, and bring Rio and Isak on to destroy their defence.

17th April 2026 at 11:55 am #243948I’ve always felt confident about us going to the Hill Dickinson. It’ll take time for Everton and their fans to properly get used to their new environment.
Never went to Goodison, but it appeared to be like a place intimidated for away teams and a reminder of the old Filbert Street where the fans sat very close to the players.
With this in mind, we’ll play with a bit more freedom. I don’t think on the back of Tuesday the players yet again would want back to back defeats. There should be a backlash and readiness above all. There are other teams out there who played last night and really done both them and their supporters proud with each of them booking their place in the Semis. They will play football on Sunday like us.
So there should be no excuses not to commit themselves against Everton and we should come away with a 3-1 Victory.

17th April 2026 at 12:18 pm #243950Ye nil, thats one thing i was thinking aswell mate. Their home form is not great. Our issue will be the basics. Not physical enough, 2nd balls and just being up for a battle.
Id have macca no were near this game. Jones for me. Macca must be adding to the team hamstrung by shite tactics.

17th April 2026 at 1:23 pm #243953Sean definitely all to play for mate. We just gotta try and park all the other stuff to one side for now until the season finishes and stay focused.
Table isn’t in bad shape. Chelsea v United Saturday Evening, so hopefully something in our favour comes good. I think Villa will probably beat Sunderland at Home, but we can still get up to 55 points and better our goal difference with a Win at Everton.
Would be Super Nice having those 3 points in the bag before the Man City – Arsenal Game at 4:30.

17th April 2026 at 6:33 pm #243965Effin Gomez out for Sunday. Needs to be moved on in the summer. Harsh, but his body isn’t built for the PL.
Obviously means ‘kite in a storm’ Frimpong will start (who is due another injury). It has been a couple of weeks! Lol.

17th April 2026 at 8:54 pm #243971It was the last time I saw our lads show some spirit, if I remember correctly they were celebrating a 1-1 draw against us, taunting our fans and Jones had none of it! He went apeshit just like I would expect the senior player to behave with a bit more restraint!
IΒ΄m actually afraid of what happens if we sell him and I think he might be on the move out this summer, he came close in January.
He is the only scouse in the squad, he is the only lad in the whole team that can take out his team mates and actually show them a good time in the city while keeping a low profile.
Henderson was almost the same, he gave everyone a tour around the city, the club, family etc. Every team has a winning culture and it starts with simple stuff like this and knowing the lunch lady name, her sons name, her daugther name etc. The same goes with the groundskepper and his family, if the lads donΒ΄t respect them we donΒ΄t have a winning culture.
IΒ΄m stealing this from Shoresy right now but it is true, every successful company has a culture where everyone knows each other and can talk to each other.
IΒ΄m afraid what happens if we cut that bond and sell Jones as he is the only lad in the squad raised as a Scouse.

18th April 2026 at 3:39 pm #243995Rob even if Chelsea get beat we can pull further away from them with a draw, which is the usual result away to Everton.
We MUST, however, be up for the fight.

18th April 2026 at 4:01 pm #243998Hmm, see what you mean Rob. 5th place gives Champions League for next season. Would it be better if United lose or draw, because if they lose and we win tomorrow, we level with them on points. I’m thinking you’re think more in context of a safety net should we lose. Even if Chelsea win, they can’t overtake us this week.
Probably be better for us to win tomorrow on TV. I have a feeling of a 2-2 draw versus Palace the week after so we need to rack up points hopefully at Everton.

18th April 2026 at 5:00 pm #2440013 Teams now on 48 pts. Really pleased or Bournemouth if they pull this through. Leeds now only 3 pts behind them as it stands. They should be safe.

18th April 2026 at 5:24 pm #244003Nil, close. This weekend last year we beat Leicester 1-0 away with a late Trent winner (his last goal for us). April 27th is when we won the league.

18th April 2026 at 5:30 pm #244004I’m more focused on the gap between us and sixth rather than who is above us.
I want Chelsea to drop points. 5th place, currently, for us, is the priority. We win and others screw up, great, but we got to pick up points every game. No more bastard defeats. Had me fill of them.
Fifth gets us IN and that’s all that matters so the bigger the gap between us and sixth the better and less stressed we all are!
