Ed, Lukaku is a monster player. The stick he got at united and among sections of Chelsea fans was simply that he wasn’t good enough or there were better players ahead of him. He is a goal machine… theyre priceless in football. Him running at defenders when at Everton was frightening, he looks to have got that back at inter. Can only wish him well over the rest of his career and think ‘what if’ he was still with us at cfc…

Can you believe mourinho got rid of Lukaka, de Bruyne, Salah and even Mata while he was his very best. All while still playing at Chelsea.

Agree 442. If he came to the PL now, imo, he’d be the best striker in the league. Better than Kane, for me.

Lukaku’s problems at Chelsea were down to the Mangers he had and the strikers he was competing with also Villas Boas went out of his way to disown Lukaku as not his signing in Hong Kong in 2011 which wasn’t a great start for him.

And after Villas Boas came Mourinho as the next permanent Manager who preferred signing Diego Costa rather than giving Lukaku a chance.

Chelsea fans hardly saw Lukaku but the majority were positive about him coming back to the Club in 2017 when Mourinho ironically signed him for United after Chelsea chased him for a long time and he was Conte’s first choice striker to sign.

Maguire is really struggling currently both personally and Club form wise he needed/needs a rest from England. Unfortunately his sending off followed by the award of an incredibly soft penalty swung the game Denmark’s way.

This was always going to be a big problem for him when £80 million was paid for him. Being English too, he was always going to be more in the spotlight and any mistake, even minor, would be highlighted. The size of the fee helped neither Man Utd nor Maguire.

Mav, I was impressed with Maguire at both Hull and Leicester, United did pay over the odds for him but neither Maguire or United set the price Leicester did.

Maguire is suffering a poor run of form currently the situation in Mykonos hasn’t helped him and neither has the poor form of DDG and the rest of the United back 4 all of whom are suffering from a loss of form which sucks the confidence out of the whole defence Maguire included.

Indeed Adlab, and Utd paid it. The problem as I say with overpaying is that if the player doesn’t justify the fee it adds huge pressure and attention on him.

Adlab, but City offered circa £70m just £10m less than United and allegedly City made a considerably higher offer to Maguire personally than United allegedly £90k pw more according to reports so the total package City offered for Maguire was actually greater than United’s offer.

The Maguire fee has been dug over so many times on here but at the time of the Maguire signing there wasn’t a surfeit of high quality Centre Backs and the Virgil Van Dijk fee probably helped raise the bar too.

The key factors imo to Maguire’s current loss of form is the Mykanos situation and the poor form of the majority of United’s back 5.

Anyway a nice showing from Reece James last night shame he spoilt it by getting himself a red card after the final whistle hopefully he learns from that it as he looks like he’s got a great future for both Club and Country.
