With Colwill out for I guess pretty much the whole next season, are we well covered for central defense?
We have Chalobah, Tosin, Badiashile & Anselmino and I guess Hato can also play CB. Wesley Fofana should return but we know how injury prone he is.

8th August 2025 at 5:38 am #223266Big blow as Colwill was starting to really show his initial promise. Jackdon leaving though im quite happy with that. There’s lots of backups for that centre half but none really make one feel confident.

8th August 2025 at 3:10 pm #223290I have to agree with your statement. If fit, I can be confident of Fofana. But truth is he is rarely fit. He won’t even be involved in our pre-season matches. Chalobah is solid. But I have doubts about Tosin. While he adds firepower during attacking corners, IMO he is slow and his anticipation isn’t that good. So I am still undecided whether we should buy a central defender or not. The window is still open, so it’s the time or never. Guehi may be the best replacement for Colwill.

9th August 2025 at 2:58 pm #223331Huge blow to lose Colwill – he has all the makings of a world class CB, as well as being left footed which is a substantial string to his bow.
In the recent friendly, we had Chalobah playing LCB and in the clips I saw it really seemed to reduce the fluidity of passing out from the back as he had to check back onto his right foot.
Hato is a LCB but I don’t like the idea of going into the new season pinning our hopes on a 19 yr old in the heart of defence..
Tosin isn’t a left sided CB, and neither is Fofana. In an ideal world we’d be playing Fofana and Colwill as our CBs.
Essentially, we need to sign someone and Maresca has basically said the same. Who that player might be is anyone’s guess though. As I said, it’s a huge blow to lose Colwill.

9th August 2025 at 3:36 pm #223342Apparently the Simons transfer is now off, nice player but we dont need him, too many already and also Garnacho is almost done. How many more forwards do we need ffs.

9th August 2025 at 3:43 pm #223343Where did you read that, Blue?
I do think Simons is not a priority but I think the club likes to ‘stockpile’ forwards because they’re simpler to move on for a profit if needed.
But I agree, we have enough in the forward department, especially if we’re bringing in Garnarcho. \
Estevao looked pretty good, so coming in off the right we have Estevao, Neto and Palmer as options.
Off the left we have Gittens, Joao Pedro, (Garnacho), George and I would have said Jackson but it looks like we will be moving him on for a tidy profit.
I’m now a bit concerned about CF – Delap didn’t get many touches and we need a commanding presence if we’re going to succeed, otherwise we risk becoming Arsenal.

9th August 2025 at 7:46 pm #223362Probably dont need anymore players right now but saying that another couple of injuries and it will become panicky so rather complete those signings, Garnacho and Simon both want to come as well so let them if it’s possible. They both decent players. We have enough centre halves but none top class so that could become a problem.

9th August 2025 at 11:38 pm #223371I read somewhere that Colwill may be out for the season. From the friendly yesterday, I feel that Anselmino isnβt ready at all. He wasnβt really in the game. Acheampong neither, too many basic mistakes I think. Tosin, Chalobah werenβt bad though. But I feel that we need a mature player (Guehi?) to replace Colwill.
And looking how our game changed (for the worse) after Palmer came off, now I would say that Simons is more priority than Garnacho. A playmaker who can bring the ball forward.
