Congrats to Liverpool on winning the World Club Cup never in doubt imo.

67, Chelsea won the European Cup Winnets Cup in 1971 beating Real Madrid in the Final after winning the FA Cup in 1970 by beating Leeds United in the Final ironically both Finals went to Replays.

In 1998 Chelsea won the European Super Cup also beating Real Madrid.

Brian, Oxlaid unfortunately is the injured player for us.

I seen a clip from you tube of the players coming off the Plane on John Lennon Airport.

He was walking with crutches, so it looks as though Ox will be out for a while ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Thanks 999. well aware of the two matches in the FA Cup against Leeds back in the day (will never ever forget those :)) and also remembered the Real Madrid victory in Greece but what I did have to research and had forgotten with time was that we replayed Real Madrid as well.

The qualification for the Cup Winners Cup as the name would suggest was for the cup winners in the various countries involved. I note Chelsea beat Manchester City that year in the earlier rounds and assume they must have been the League Cup winners. Just wondering if 5th and 6th places also qualified and if the Cup Winners Cup was replaced by what is now the Europa League or what actually happened with time to the Cup Winners Cup which we subsequently won again in the late 90s against Stuttgart with a Zola special.

Pagan was mentioning a trophy that Liverpool never won and that had me thinking a European trophy. As it turns out, it was the Zenith Data Systems Cup which I also barely remember and appears to have only run between 1985 and 1992 under various other names.

67, no teams that won the League Cup didn’t qualify for the European Cup Winners Cup you had to win the FA Cup or the European equivalent. Chelsea played Man City in the Semi Finals who qualified for the 1970/71 tournament as the holders having won the European Cup Winners Cup under Joe Mercer in 1970. Cheers 9’s

congrats liverpool, really starting to get consistant trophies under Klopp and the juggernaught rolls on!
if they hadnt lost those other finals under Klopp too they would have been truly scary! fine margins but you can see the improvement from then to now

on a sad note, Mr Mak who deleted his account here, not long after saying he hated the pool page on TT and certain psters must never be allowed here os back on that page and embroiled in some nasty sounding stuff, makes no sense to me, reading the tone of some his posts though im worried for the lad, he went form well balanced and able to taqke and give fun to …something not quite right, hope this isnt more significant for him on a personal level…..its only football!
