Our biggest issue seems to be lack of ‘bite’ from most of our players to close down opponents; we give them too much time to turn towards goal, think and pass the ball. Only Mainoo and Fernandes were getting up in their faces constantly, whilst the likes of Amad and Mbuemo were just strolling to get back into a good position to defend (which is unacceptable at this level).

Lammens and Mainoo were excellent yesterday; I also liked Mazraoui after he came on (such a superior player to Dalot).

Too many gaps in other areas though: Dalot, Shaw, Casemiro (despite his threat from corners), Amad and Mbuemo were all really poor and yesterday’s performances were not good enough for a title-challenging / CL team (which we want to be next season).

A good 3 points but the performance of the team overall was far from convincing. Anyone who thinks Carrick should just be handed the job needs a new brain. I’m not saying he shouldn’t get it but I am saying that they should still be looking at other coaches. Iraola is not going to Athletic Club as they’ve appointed Terzic. He may go to Real or Atletico as there’s rumours that Simeone’s time is coming to an end. We still to look at who’s out there.

Maverick – if Thiago could have had a hattrick then so could Amad. We were much better at creating chances and, ultimately, defending our box. Maguire header off the line as well we really could and should have been out of sight at half time. We obviously need a big summer of new talent coming in to take us to the next level but the people who were predicting we’d finish 15th again this season will need to hold their hands up if we finish 3rd – not moaning like little bitches.

We need strengthening in all areas but so do Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and City!!
I don’t think we’re a million miles away personally. The big question is whether Carrick is the man to take us forward and I’m not sure about that. Iraola has done well at Bournemouth but so did Thomas Frank at Brentford, United is a different animal. The problem we have with Carrick is twofold – firstly, there’s probably no other manager who could have come in and got the results he has. So that’s a big problem for the board because how can you not give him the job?
Secondly, you can easily see an Ole-type collapse half way through next season after a few bad results.
So who the fuck knows what they’ll do?!

If there’s a collapse half way through the season it’s because the players will have checked out AGAIN. That said, it’s easier to replace one manager than a whole team, as we’ve seen on multiple occasions.
