Ever since that ludicrous 4-3 defeat here in 2016 we’ve only lost once at Bournemouth since, winning 5 out of 6 and all 5 a score to none victory (4-0, 4-0, 3-0, 4-0 and last season’s 2-0 win).
We were made to work for three points earlier in the reverse fixture this season which was also the first game of the new campaign and needed two late strikes from Chiesa (only scored once since) and Mo running out 4-2 winners. Semenyo, predictably, caused us havoc that day.
Bournemouth are having a shite season, P24 in all comps, only W6, D10 and L8. They’ve had a few teams on the ropes though recently, a 3-3 draw at Newcastle in the Cup (before losing on pens), a narrow 3-2 home defeat to Arsenal and drew at Chelsea and United.
Without Semenyo they’ll be relying on Tavernier, Evanilson and Kroupi to supply the goals and expect those to create issues for us on Saturday.
Who will start?
Alisson, Frimpong, Gomez, VVD, Kerkez, Grav, Jones, Szobo, Gakpo, Ekitike, Mo. Wirtz could start but think he and Mac will be on the bench and start v Qarabag midweek. I expect Konate to maybe be back midweek after the death of his father but they may give him an extended leave of absence until the Newcastle home game next weekend. Very sad. To ask Gomez to play three straight games though is a risk of extremely high level.
We should win this and think we will.
Bournemouth 1 Liverpool 2 or 3.

23rd January 2026 at 6:22 am #237424Rob I was watching a video on youtube from 10 years ago about where all our players from back then were at around the world. Gomez is the only player still here and the funny thing is that he has not aged one bit since he was 19 years old. He is still rocking the same beard and haircut. His career is a shame, he is such a good defender when fit, he should have around 50 caps at a international level. Another 200 for us, considering the time he has spent at the club. When he was fit, we had two of the best two seasons ever at the club, him, Matip and Van Dijk. Those three were arguably the best in the world. BTW I miss Matip, what a composed defender.

23rd January 2026 at 10:05 am #237430Nil, i really like gomez, a player that can play every position in defence to a good level. Hes our top utility player for emergencies⦠its just unfortunate hes made of glass and has lapses in concentration. Will be missed the day he leaves LFC and i hope he gets a great send off!

23rd January 2026 at 10:16 am #237431Saw improvement from Mac and I would keep playing him. Can see from a mile off that one of our centre backs is going to get injured soon. Robbo back in for Kerkez who ran his socks off and needs protection.

23rd January 2026 at 12:32 pm #237443Rob, you are absolutely right in the individual players of Bournemouth you’ve highlighted that are of their reliance.
I watched the first half Monday Night versus Brighton and up until that dubious call by the Ref, Bournemouth didn’t really offer a goal threat.
It seems a positive vibe in posts so far and I myself feel the same in being confident. It’s the draws and of course our playing style from what we have had to adapt to, but this should be a comfortable away win for us.
We need this because our next 2 games are at Anfield and they are mouth-watering. We need the Wirtz’s, the Ekitike’s and the Salah’s to now let loose, play their game and put those chances away. C’MON!!!!!

23rd January 2026 at 12:35 pm #237444Asian, you’re right about Gomez. I feel confident and relaxed just on the back of Weds’ performance and victory. Burnley to one side, but it just took me to the trail of thought on both Henderson and Milner. We lack those type of characters and figured-head type of players.
Gomez has been first class – just gets focused and does the job. We need him.

Its availability.

23rd January 2026 at 6:27 pm #237476I don’t think Tavanier will be available tomorrow. Bournemouth I think are struggling with injuries.

23rd January 2026 at 10:04 pm #237493We loaned Tsimikas out because Robbo was the better option.
I think Robbo has asked for this as itβs a WC year, likely to be his last WC and he needs to be playing in the build up to it.
If thatβs the case, and I suspect it is, then I wish him well.
He owes us nothing._____________________________

23rd January 2026 at 10:28 pm #237494This is the point I have ‘Tirelessly’ for years and years trying to drive hahaha. It’s possible we can find a Robbo from the Lower Divisions of the English League.
What a Find in Absolute. Too Right Ginger, he owes us nothing, we owe him at least an Ovation and Beyond.

23rd January 2026 at 11:17 pm #237496Ginger, a career like this is mutual. He owes us and we owe him – respect. But we donβt owe him playing time, and we canβt expect him to be a loyal sub. Very different from a Trent situation (or Konate).

24th January 2026 at 1:33 pm #237508Bit frustrating to see West Ham 3 goals to the good and yet we let a ‘thing’ like ‘low block’ get in our way in not being able to despatch Sunderland.
It’s a funny old game!!

24th January 2026 at 2:38 pm #237513Nil, correct, West Ham just attacked Sunderland’s low block with quick, direct passes, which we didn’t do and used the ‘low block’ as yet another excuse (glad Stevie G came out this week and mentioned it).
Just watch Spurs go to Burnley and win too.

24th January 2026 at 4:25 pm #237518Liverpool: Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo
Substitutes: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Robertson, Endo, Ramsay, Jones, Nyoni, Ngumoha, Ekitike
Not a great bench.

24th January 2026 at 4:28 pm #237520yes but it almost looks like a Klopp team, I hope Wirtz will be in the middle and if that happens then we have just gone back to Bobby basically.

24th January 2026 at 4:29 pm #237521That first 11 has to get the points as there’s not much of a back up.
Robbo’s last game?
