Oh the memories that this thread is bringing back! I’d forgotten about so many of these players. Juninho and Kinkladze. Although I’d not have them in a best 11, they were tricky little players but then nine mentioned Vialli and Gullit. What about that lad who went to Middlesborough, Ravanelli! .. I had to look up his name. I was definitely a bit jealous of Boro with this signing. How on earth did they pull that off!

It really pains me knowing that I don’t think we’ve got space in the side for Macca. I’d love to have him in this side but I’ve just got to admit that Bale was a better player. I’m not sure where we’re going to fit some of these essential players in.

What’s the discussion regards a RB and LB? LB has been a problem position for most clubs I think. Liverpool have Rob Jones, Babel and Finnan and Glen Johnson as RB options. Rob Jones might have made the team had injury not cut his career very short. I’m not sure who I’d put forward from the RB, Babel or Finnan but on the left we’ve only got Riise and although he’s a bit of a legend, I’m sure there were better out there.

Best player to never win the PL?

It’s crazy to think how many great players never did it. That’s how good and competitive the PL was and is. Gerrard, Bale, Hasselbaink, Zola, Suarez, Torres, Alonso, Desailly, Le Tissier all got mentioned.

You couldn’t make such a list with Serie A or La Liga.

If a had to choose one player as the greatest to never win the PL, I think I’d have to go with Gerrard though. He really was worldclass for so many seasons. Many times dragging his team over the line on his own in other competitions. I don’t think any other of the ones who missed out on the PL did that to same extent. So he gets my vote.

back in my memory box Newcastle had some great players, Robledo was one,City also signed George Hannah, who was like Silva is to day, then there was Middlesborough with Wilf Manion Sunderland with Shackleton Broadis (who we signed as well) Hull City had Raich Carter Utd had Jack Rowley a goal scoring machine fed by Charly Mitten and Eric Delaney Peter Doherty shone for City until he moved to Derby

Goalkeepers, there were so many good ones, after Swift, I would say Gil Merrick of Birmingham Geo Tweedy Grimsby Ted Sagar Everton Sam Bartram Charlton and Vic Woodley of Chelsea I think most of them did not win the league though Goalkeepers were iron men then subjected to charging , a very heavy ball covered in mud usually

CBs Billy Wright/Stan Cullis Wolves , Neil Franklin Stoke, T.G Jones Everton were the stand outs
