The reported fee for Ederson has to be a piss take. How can we be offering nearly £40M for a player with a year left? If that’s the first bit of business this summer then we’re off to a complete shocker.
Was hoping with CL football and finishing third that ambitions in the market would be high. With at least £80M coming in you’d expect we’ve the best part of £300M to spend in the window.

Atletico apparently walked away because they knew they couldn’t match the wages we’d offer, not because they didn’t want him. The actual price tag was nothing to do with it by all accounts, Atletico were happy to pay the fee, it was wages that made them baulk. It’s why they’ve now gone for Joao Gomes instead, in this case it’s Gomes is the second choice. According to Sky Sports, we’re agreeing a £35m deal plus add-ons. Given that we paid £60m for Mount who was in a similar situation a few years ago, I’d say we’ve learned some lessons. This is also the way the market is going, many clubs are happier to let contracts run down to get the last ounces of ability from a good player rather than sell, whereas a few years ago clubs were desperate to sell to get money for players.

Well said Killy. £35m for an experienced player in this current climate is a steal. Having said that the Sky Sports write-up on Ederson is very underwhelming isn’t it? Hopefully he’s being brought in as an upgrade to Collyer!!!

Happy you’ve outdone yourself there mate. Describing a signing as a steal and underwhelming in same post. If £35M is a steal for a player with a year left why can’t we get the same fee for Rashford and end up having to give away players? Don’t get why that didn’t go in for Joao Gomes for the same fee. At least he has PL experience

I think Ederson was more expensive than Ugarte when we were weighing up which one to sign. So for £35m its sort of ok isn’t it? Even if he doesn’t turn out to be amazing its not like we’ve spent Sesko money on him. That’s why i think its relevant who he replaces/upgrades in the squad. If he’s 1 of 3 midfielders coming in then it means we can spend more on the other 2.

Killy you are wrong .. Atletico had agreed personal terms with Ederson while offering 35 to 40M including bonuses but Atlanta stood firm on 45 to 50M including Bonuses. Plus i think we are paying the fee of €41 upfront
Atletico walked because Atalanta’s valuation stayed very high and the overall package became expensive for a player with a year left on his current contract; So they went for Joao Gomes who is more cheaper and has better resale value.
And Happy if he doesn’t turn out to be amazing that’s another dud on the team but i do hope he delivers because we badly need a DM who can slot in right away and deliver consistently.

So let me get this right. We agreed a deal with Barcelona for Rashford on loan then a 25 million deal to sign him permanently. They decided that they couldn’t afford this so wanted to restructure the deal for another loan and probably a reduced fee. Now apparently they’ve offered 75 million for Gordon ( appreciate he’s younger so has potential resale value) that aside what a bunch of dirty piss taking twats. Utd have done the right thing by not caving to their demands wankers

at first blush it does look like Barca aren’t interested in rashford as gordon normally plays on the left, not to mention the fact that he’ll be second fiddle to raphinha anyway. however if they decided not to get a conventional striker after they deemed Alvarez too expensive and Chelsea said no to selling Pedro, and just play with 3 fluid forwards instead, then there is definitely a place for rashford as the one who comes off the bench, especially at 26 million or whatever it was

It was Bayern who were rumored to want Gordon and Barca just swept and took him. Flick wants a mobile Player upfront who can both create and score; but it also shows how confident Barca are that they will definitely get Rashford in the end.
But it’s also a good indication that the EPL breeds good attackers that can be sought after by other Big clubs outside England from Alavrez, Luiz Diaz, Olise, kane, Big Nose Rashford and now Gordon.
