Bingo, Nagelsmann is contracted to the German National team until 2028 (although, I believe, there is a 2027 termination clause involved too).

2nd February 2026 at 6:41 pm #238427Rob I think Klopp will take over the German national team after the world cup. Even if they win it, I think Nagelsmann will step down and head back into club football.

2nd February 2026 at 7:30 pm #238428Great news that Upamecano signed new contract at Bayern.
I did not want him at Liverpool.I’m still holding out hopes Konate will still sign. Rumours he had a hand in convincing Jacquet.
I could see him returning to Paris though.

2nd February 2026 at 10:24 pm #238429I am actually hoping you might be right about that rumor ginger, it is the sort of things serious players think about and I bet Ibou wants to lead the France side out at one time and I think with a little bit more maturity he will become a world class player. I think a move to Paris would be a step back for him, it would only be about money nothing else, in a less competitive league. I´m hoping he just comes back and realizes that the squad is his family by now. Life is short and when you make enough money, you don´t have to worry about money. You can make the decision about football and quality of life. The grass is not always greener on the other side and in truth Ibou could make the move to any other club in a few years and nobody would begrudge him the move. He can become a legend at one club or two clubs, if he stays, I doubt he will be a legend anywhere if he moves to soon.

2nd February 2026 at 11:24 pm #238434Let’s hope the inability to strengthen now doesn’t backfire and have Jacquet play europa league next season. I am worried.

3rd February 2026 at 10:12 am #238443Time for Jacquet to up his game even further and see if he can make the France World Cup squad this year. Will be a tall order, considering his competition.

3rd February 2026 at 10:25 am #238444Jacquet has captained his country at all youth levels he’s been involved in. Which gives a bit of indication of certain leadership qualities.
It’ll be hard for him to break into the France team currently as they have depth at centreback however I wouldn’t rule him out making the squad.
We have to remember France is one of the top footballing nations so it’s hard to break into the team at such a young age.

3rd February 2026 at 11:21 am #238451“Too much money, I’m sorry. We should have kids ready to be unleashed. 60m???”
No, it’s just about right price for Jacquet, especially as other big clubs, like Chelsea, were prepared to pay that same price for him. In fact if he can improve even further, and make the highly competitive France squad for the World Cup, tough as that may be, his value will go even higher.
As for his stats, 29 apps last season (11 in Ligue 1) and 19 apps this season. Plus he’s started every league game for Renes this season, except for two games where he was suspended for a red card. Plus he’s rarely injured in his career, so far.

3rd February 2026 at 11:32 am #238452Chelsea aren’t exactly a creditable benchmark when debating if a deal represents good value or not. Other top teams were interested but didn’t pursue further due to the costs quoted.

3rd February 2026 at 2:14 pm #238470threeps I think the next tv-contract will go up about 40%, we don´t have to worry about player prices, we still have one of the lowest outlay of any big club in the last 5 years. Sure we spend big on players but we are not stockpiling on them like some clubs. We also got the highest wage bill in the league but that is partly explained by winning the league and bonuses paid. We are not far off from starting to see a average footballer go for 100 million, it will climb up from there until we reach a billion euro player. Then keep going until we start cutting zeros.

I totally disagree.
Chelsea are a totally creditable benchmark, just like most other top teams in the PL. In 2025 alone they’ve got it right with Joao Pedro for £55m (13 goals so far), and the sensational teenager Estevao for only £29m.
Not to mention the spectacular bargain of Cole Palmer for only £40m, so by and large they know what they’re doing, even their big money signings above £100m, Caicedo and Fernandez, have been quite successful.
And of course, just like any other top team, they get some deals wrong, but nothing as utterly stupid as Liverpool spending £125m on Isak.

3rd February 2026 at 6:05 pm #238490We bought Leoni for £30m after only 17 apps in Serie A.
Jacquet has played for two seasons in Ligue 1, starting every game for Rennes this season, except for the two when he was suspended.
And while anything can happen when you sign a player, he is highly-rated (see below, for example) and I am certain our transfer team have done an in-depth analysis on him, just like they did for our other highly priced, highly rated young players like Ekitike.

3rd February 2026 at 6:27 pm #238495Chelsea also got it majorly wrong with…
Mudryk 75m
Nkunku 52m
Koulibaly 33m
Disai 39m
Felix 45m
Lavia 53m
Morata 60m
Lukaku 97m
Delap 30mA consistent record of mightily pissing money away.

3rd February 2026 at 6:39 pm #238498@Songman “but nothing as utterly stupid as Liverpool spending £125m on Isak” and “Chelsea are a totally creditable benchmark“
disagree with a few statements there.. chelsea have been absolute bollocks in the past few years … mudryk £85mill, nkunku 52mill, lavia 50mill, axel disas to name just a few… isaks done better and is more highly regarded than any of those. Plus this is a team which spent a billion and still couldnt put out a defence or strike force.
Lets not even talk about the likes of Anthony, sancho, mguire, onana at united or arsenal signing pepe for 70mill 6 years a go.. isak was picking up form until he was injured(not of his doing). If isaks a crock and plays shite in 2027 may i will give you your point, until then lets give the guy a chance!
