The fact that City/Etihad said in 2015 that the club wasn’t being funded by the Abu Dhabi government doesn’t, by itself, prove that government funding didn’t happen. It proves that that is what they said at the time.
The real question is what the underlying evidence shows — bank records, transfers, contracts and the paper trail showing where the money actually originated. If the documentary evidence establishes that the funds came from the UAE government, a previous denial could simply mean the earlier statement was false or misleading; it doesn’t somehow change the underlying financial trail. Conversely, if the paper trail shows the money came from elsewhere, that’s obviously significant too.
Ultimately, the actual paper trail matters more than what someone said about the paper trail years ago.
And that is why this appeal should still be a concern.
