The whole situation is a huge problem for football and the premier league. First you have politicians and Burnham weighing in worried about how this will affect our relationship with Dubai. Highlights one very good reason why Sports and Politics shouldn’t meet.
The other issue is because this has taken so long. City have become a powerhouse in English football. If this had come out at the time, I really think the PL would’ve made an example of them. Tbh there’s only two clubs Liverpool and ourselves that they wouldn’t, maybe Arsenal. ( Due to Worldwide commercial interests).
The Premier League are now backed into a corner as they now have to administer a punishment ( unless City somehow find a technical way out) that is severe enough. However I don’t think they actually want to relegate the club, also the Likes of us, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal still want them in the League (big tv audiences worldwide)
Therefore my opinion is that they will be hit with a record fine, Compensation will be paid to clubs. This is the crucial part! They will get a points reduction but it won’t be 80 points. It’ll be high enough so there’s jeopardy but they will avoid being relegated.
That way the premier league will say look we’ve punished them, whilst all the time being relieved they are Still in the league.
Like it or loathe it, Money has overtaken sporting integrity. Like said at the start it’s a fucking huge problem.
