51m was his release clause which was presented to a number of clubs such as Madrid. This is what City paid and anyone else had the option to. However, everyone backed away when told the agent fees (agent being his father’s company) would be something like 75m. City eventually agreed on something like 40m.
The question isnt if City were in a position to afford Haaland, its should they have been in the first place after all the earlier cheating?
Unfortunately no matter what punishment comes their way they still benefitted and I doubt further punishment will occur beyond what was investigated which is a travesty to the greatest non cheating period of dominance ever seen in Klopp’s Liverpool.
