That’s a wrap to one of the most underwhelming seasons that I can remember. Perhaps even more so than when Roy was in charge, given the amount spent in the summer window and that we came from winning the title.
Looking at the squad now, we’re in for a possibly even greater overhaul than last season. Hard to see next will be better than this.
GK – Alisson potentially out. Is Mama ready to take over as number 1, or do we need to spend again?
LD: Robertson out, surely Tsimikas is not enough to cover for Kerkesz who himself has not proved his worth.
RD: Underwhelming from Frimpong, Bradley too injury prone. We likely need to do something.
CD: Konate might be gone. Gomez might be gone. VvD is not getting better. We need big investments.
CDM: We have noone. Endo is not trusted and is likely out.
CM: I think we have good players here, but Slot can’t get the best out of them. MacAllister is a great player. Jones great cover. Elliott back. But seems we’re in for Wharton anyway.
Wingers: Gakpo not good enough. Salah out. Rio the only one we have – if you don’t deploy Wirtz here. We need great investments here.
ST: Ekitike and Isak. Should be enough, but where is Hugo after his injury? And we cannot count on more than 20 games per season from 140mn pound Isak.
Then, we really need to get a new manager in.
Apart from results (bad), way of playing (poor and boring) – I think a manager should be judged by how much he improves his players. I have a hard time seeing anyone improved apart from Grav last season (I’ll give him that).
