I’m not sure Carrick was the first choice but, apart from Iraola (who’s also relatively untested at a big club) and Glasner (whose temperament is questionable recently) no-one else we’d want is available. Enrique is on the verge of signing a new deal at PSG, all the international coaches are committed to their jobs in the medium to long term. Do we want Pochettino? Not available until July at least. There’s also Fabregas but he’s onto a winner at Como at the moment and he’s also a part owner of the club. Given the need for stability in this window I think we were left with no other choice. He’s got a two year deal and you would hope there’s get out clauses based on not getting into the CL etc.
