I think Baleba and Anderson aren’t as technically good as Wharton but they are more mobile and more physical. If we’re planning on keeping Mainoo, and it very much looks like we are, then I don’t think we need Wharton, they’re too similar and wouldn’t be able to boss the midfield or close gaps. Mainoo still isn’t mature enough to do it, as seen by the fact that we basically collapse when Casemiro leaves the field. That’s not to say that he won’t be able to do it in time, with experience, but he definitely can’t at the moment. I’m all for signing Anderson, I’m very much on the don’t sign side of the fence for Baleba but I still think we need to be looking at an experienced midfielder, Neves signed a new contract in Saudi yesterday so he’s off the table. Definitely could have signed him on a free on higher wages if we’d moved fast enough.
