Watkins was poor last season as well, this should be a surprise to no-one, Jhon Duran got them out of jail a lot in the early stages of last season. The best thing Villa could have done would have been to sell Watkins to Arsenal when they came calling in the summer of ’24, kept Duran as their No.1 stiker. He wouldn’t have left for Saudi if he was Villa’s first choice striker. Then they could have either promoted a young striker from their academy or bought a young striker to be backup and they’d have space to develop while Duran was the leading man. That’s actually almost a fuck up of Man Utd proportions when you look back at it.
